Guillem March’s beautiful, magical realist series Karmen is getting a new trade paperback collection from Image Comics. And if you missed it the first time around? Do not miss it when it hits stores later this year.
Trigger warning past this point, but Karmen is about Catalina, a woman who died by suicide, and is “taken under the wing of the quirky and mysterious angel, Karmen, on a journey of discovery and reflection.” It’s a darkly comic, gorgeously drawn book that deals with life, death, and everything in between. And in case the subject matter wasn’t clear, it’s also pervaded with nudity so this is definitely for adults only.
“In addition to being an incredible artist, Guillem has a storytelling sensibility all his own, and Karmen is a perfect example of that,” said Eric Stephenson, Publisher and Chief Creative Officer at Image Comics via press release. “This is thoughtful, probing stuff that will haunt your imagination long after you’ve lingered on the last page, and after selling through the initial printing in hardcover, we’re thrilled to make it available again as a paperback.”
Karmen was originally published in Belgium by Dupuis in graphic novel form, then released as single issues by Image Comics, and then collected into a deluxe hardcover. Now, fans will be able to get a paperback version of the book on November 19 in comic book stores and on December 2 in book stores.
