Dynamite’s Motion To Move Up Court Date Denied:
In a follow-up to yesterday’s story, Dynamite’s motion to move up their court date in reference to the Diamond bankruptcy has been denied. They will still be heard on July 16, but this is unequivocally bad news.
Per The Beat, that court date had been set because Dynamite is owed over $500,000 by Diamond. However, they wanted to move things up because they are now owed over $1 million by Diamond, and will be unable to make payroll next week if they don’t get the money. Making matters worse, a huge chunk of their comics are currently being held by Diamond, who plans on selling them; though none of the money from those sales would go to Dynamite.
It’s an awful situation that impacts not just Dynamite’s 30 staff members, but also the dozens if not hundreds of freelancers they work with to make their comics. As The Beat points out though, you can help out Dynamite by purchasing their currently on-sale Disney Humble Bundle, which includes some great comics and supports First Book, a nonprofit that supports educational needs of underserved children.
More on this as it develops.
IDW Heads To Same Day Digital On GlobalComix Gold:
Digital Comics Wars 2k25 are heating up once again, as IDW will now be released same day digital on GlobalComix Gold.
Per Comic Book Yeti, the titles will launch starting next Wednesday, on July 9, for anyone with a Gold membership to GlobalComix. Going forward, that will include the new Kai-Sei line of Godzilla comics, the IDW Dark line, Beneath the Trees sequel Rite of Spring, and more.
However, it will not include Top Shelf titles. Or at least, not with a Gold, all-you-can-read membership. Instead, Top Shelf titles will be available day-and-date, but can be purchased on an individual issue or graphic novel basis. The same is true for the other IDW titles, if you prefer that to ponying up for Gold.
Other publishers day-and-date on GlobalComix include Dark Horse and Archie Comics. We’ll see if more follow suit.
Marvel Teases The Mortal Thor:
Spoilers, I guess, but Thor’s dead, dude. OR IS HE?? Because in the final issue of The Immortal Thor from Marvel Comics, Thor died… And then was somehow back. And now Marvel has officially announced what’s next: The Mortal Thor by Al Ewing and Pasqual Ferry.
Said Ewing via press release, “Now that IMMORTAL THOR #25 is on the stands for you to read – and please do – we can be a little more open about the exact nature of the second act of the story. This was an idea that sprang into being from the original pitch; I wanted to treat Thor as a God, and give him a truly mythological story… but as well as the son of Odin, he’s the son of Gaea. So we find ourselves in winter. Thor is dead, and Sigurd Jarlson walks the earth – without power, without fame, without memory. And yet the fate of Asgard and Midgard rests on this mortal man making the journey to return the magic of the Gods to the Earth. And to get there – to even learn the nature of the quest – he’s going to have to fight.”
Given Ewing recently grounded and revamped Venom after an over-arching cosmic story, it seems he’s doing something similar — albeit with a very different plot — over on Thor. Naturally, the “next” issue comes out next month, so you can continue to follow Thor’s adventures as he seemingly murders people with a regular hammer, at least according to the covers.
The Mortal Thor #1 hits stores on July 14.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And I can also murder people with hammers, does that make me Thor?
