RIP Previews.

Deadpool/Batman backups announced.

Tom King returns to Batman.

This is Comic Book Club News for June 25, 2025.

Previews Catalogue Canceled By Diamond:

Previews, the massive catalogue of everything Diamond Comics Distributors is, well, distributing in a given month has been canceled. At least, the physical version.

The final printed issue is already on stands, previewing comics coming out in September. Going forward, there will be a digital version of Previews made available, which will contain links to the Diamond website to order. That’s currently live at PreviewsWorld.com, which contains the full catalogue, albeit in digital form.

However, with new publishers abandoning the bankrupt Diamond nearly every day, it’s unclear what exactly will be in that edition, or whether it will continue in any form going forward. It’s also unclear as to whether Ad Populum, which purchased Diamond and “related assets” also owns Previews.

We can draw comfort from the fact that the print version of Previews is now in heaven with Wizard Magazine.

Marvel Announces Deadpool/Batman Backup Stories:

Marvel has announced the backup stories for their forthcoming Deadpool/Batman, and not to toot our own horn, but we were right on the money with most of them.

Alongside the headliner story by Zeb Wells and Greg Capullo, backups will include: Daredevil and Green Arrow by Kevin Smith and Adam Kubert, Captain America and Wonder Woman by Chip Zdarsky and Terry Dodson, and Jeff the Land Shark and Krypto by Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru.

Said Thompson via press release about the real headliner, “Two ICONS meeting for the first time! It’s such an honor for Jeff to get to be Marvel’s ambassador in this crossover story with Krypto. Anyone who loves comics knows how rare it is for DC and Marvel to crossover, so Jeff getting to be part of this historic moment with Krypto, and Gurihiru and I getting to bring that tale to readers… well, sometimes this job is very cool.”

The issue will come with variant covers featuring each of the matchups, and will hit stores on September 17.

Tom King Returns To Batman:

Tom King is back on the Batman beat. The writer revealed to the Batman Book Club podcast that he’s written a new, 40-page one-shot with someone who may be “the best artist in comics.”

As reported by Bleeding Cool, King told the podcast that he was in the DC offices taking meetings when Batman editor Rob Levin approached him with the offer of a one-shot, and whatever he wanted to do with the Dark Knight.

However, the wide open nature of the assignment flummoxed the prolific writer. Said King, “I’m not a guy with trouble coming up with ideas; I’m good at that part of the game, but I could not think of an idea for this Batman. There are more stories told about Batman than any other fictional character. So first you have to have a good idea and then you have to check against your knowledge of Batman, that’s been done before.”

Don’t worry, King did come up with an idea while on a plane, and is “really proud of how it turned out” and “it will have the best art in comics.”

We’ll know who that artist is when the book hits stores, some time in 2026.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. And maybe the art is by whoever does Family Circus, they’re pretty good.
