This is Comic Book Club News for June 23, 2025.
Marvel September 2025 Solicits Highlights:
September is a big month not just for Marvel, but the comic book industry, as the first crossover between DC and Marvel in decades kicks off with Deadpool/Batman #1. Even more exciting than the main story are the backups, which include Green Arrow and Daredevil from Kevin Smith, Wonder Woman and Captain America from Chip Zdarsky, and the real headliner, Jeff the Land Shark meets Krypto the Superdog, from Kelly Thompson and Gurihiru.
As Marvel looks to the future, they’re also looking at the past. Jeph Loeb’s X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha brings the Age of Apocalypse roster to the 616. Spider-Man ’94 #1 continues the cliffhanger from the classic animated series. Battleworld is a five-issue miniseries riff on Secret Wars. Marvel Zombies is back for a Red Band series focusing on the zombie Fantastic Four. And in Avengers #30 the team heads to the Battleworld from Jonathan Hickman’s Secret Wars, which is different from the Secret Wars in Battleworld, and they encounter the Marvel Zombies, who are different from the zombies in Marvel Zombies. Comics: why?
And even Punisher is back, also for a Red Band series, in his classic costume because we solved that whole pesky problem where people in the real world were coopting the Punisher symbol to justify real life violence. Oh, sorry, I’m just getting word we haven’t solved that problem. Nevertheless!
Meanwhile, Imperial continues to redefine cosmic Marvel with two one-shots, one titled Exiles and focusing on Professor X and Lilandra saving their daughter; and Nova – Centurion focusing on, well, Nova.
In the Ultimate Universe, Ultimate Hawkeye gets a one-shot as they go on a covert op with “massive impact on the future of the Ultimate Universe.” Miles Morales fights Illyana Rasputin in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #4. The Sinister Six keep fighting each other in Ultimate Spider-Man #21. And Ultimates #16 focuses on the street-level members of the team.
Doctor Strange gets the legacy numbering treatment, jumping all the way to #450 for an anniversary issue. The Undead Iron Fist brings back Danny Rand, who you might have missed was killed off last year. One World Under Doom continues with issue #7, as Doom’s secret is revealed, which spills over into multiple other titles. Amazing Spider-Man #11 introduces a second, cosmic Spider-Man. In the final issues of Gwenpool, Spider-Man, Hawkeye, and Gwenpool are all dead, and Gwen Stacy is alive, so who knows what’s happening there. And Storm #12 wraps up the Thunder War event.
