They say in Soviet Union, comic book read you, but James Tynion IV and Michael Avon Oeming are proving they’re better read than dead with Red Book, a new four-issue series from Dark Horse that will explore UFO activity in the Soviet Union and China.

“Mike and I wanted to do something special with the latest volume of BLUE BOOK and I think you’ll love what we have in store for you,” said Tynion via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “We’re bring our True Weird goodness to the other side of the globe with RED BOOK, where we’re getting to dig into the truth behind UFO encounters from the Soviet Union and Communist China from over the 20th Century!”

As Tynion mentions, the team has been exploring UFOs and other “True Weird” tales through Blue Book. And now, Red Book will head across the Iron Curtain alongside letterer Tom Napolitano. As usual, the issues will also feature backup stories, with the first featuring one written and illustrated by Malachi Ward and lettered by Aditya Bidikar.

Red Book #1 will hit stores on October 8, 2025, with covers by Oeming, Yuko Shimizu, Tyler Boss, and Dani. You can check out the covers and the official synopsis, below.

Russia, 1961. Nine students die tragically under mysterious circumstances that will come to be known as the Dyatlov Pass Incident. To this day, the actual cause of their deaths remains unknown, although some theorize the blame lies with visitors from beyond the stars…
