Tate Brombal And Jacob Phillips Team Up For Zombie Western ‘Everything Dead & Dying’

Everything Dead & Dying crop

What to get when you mix The Last of Us and Yellowstone? Other than “a ratings bonanza,” maybe something close to Everything Dead & Dying, a new five-issue comic book series coming from Image Comics, by writer Tate Brombal and artist Jacob Phillips.

Everything Dead & Dying has been in my brain marinating and rotting since the summer of 2020, now five years later it is finally emerging in all of its undead glory,” said Brombal via press release. “I had never read a zombie story like this, so I pushed up my sleeves and decided to write it myself. I’m so excited to be working with my good friend, Jacob Phillips, who has never been better, and I’m incredibly proud that this story will be published by Image Comics—the publisher that revitalized zombie stories for an entire generation. This comic is an ode to everything that came before—and everything that refuses to die.”

Added Phillips, “A BITING tale full of BRAINS and GUTS. We’ve poured BLOOD, sweat and tears into this comic that will leave you HUNGRY for more. But seriously. It’s been an absolute joy to build and inhabit this world of the undead with Tate, Pip and Aditya. We cannot wait for you to experience this story in all its GORY.”

If the art thing falls through, turns out Phillips has a lock on the job of “Cryptkeeper.” Anyway, in the book, the survivor of a zombie apocalypse has waited out the end of the world in his rural farming community, choosing to live “alongside the undead—including the husband and adopted daughter he fought so hard to have. But when his town is discovered by outsiders, Jack suddenly becomes the one thing standing in the way of those who hope to kill his family for good.”

Everything Dead & Dying #1 hits stores on September 3, 2025. You can check out several interior pages and covers by Jacob Phillips, Sean Phillips, and Joshua Hixson, below. There will also be a surprise variant by a guest artist we’re just dying to meet [insert Cryptkeeper laugh here]. Click for larger versions.
