Dynamite is expanding its relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products once again, with a new, “darker” take on the classic cartoon The Blue Falcon & Dynomutt. Written by Jimmy Palmiotti with art by Pasquale Qualano, the upcoming comic book series will introduce a “dark tale of justice and revenge” that just happens to feature a robot dog.

“This is not the origin of Blue Falcon, but a story about a man and his dog and their connection throughout a major event in both their lives,” said Palmiotti via press release. “Number one for me in writing this series is that it has to be fun — well, my version of fun anyway. I will say that some of it is much darker than people might remember, but it makes sense to the characters. I updated the world around them a bit for sure.”

Blue Falcon is Radley Crown, a superhero with a faithful dog companion who are attacked by a gang, and decide to become vigilantes as a result. The characters were originally featured as Dynomutt, Dog Wonder in the Scooby-Doo/Dynomutt Hour back in 1976, before spinning out for an additional handful of episodes in 1977, rebranded as The Blue Falcon & Dynomutt. Since then, they’ve popped up in numerous other shows for guest turns, including Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, and in the case of Blue Falcon, a recurring role on Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law. They’ve also crossed over with Scooby-Doo multiple times, including a role in the recent movie Scoob!

The Blue Falcon & Dynomutt #1 will hit stores in September, featuring covers by Lucio Parrillo, Joseph Michael Linsner, Francesco Mattina, and Amanda Conner. Check them out, as well as two unlettered pages, below.
