EXCLUSIVE: Juan Gedeon Heads West For ‘Wild West C.O.W.-Boys Of Moo Mesa’

Oni Press‘ Nacelleverse is heading west with the new title Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa. Written by Matt Hotson, with art by Juan Gedeon, the new series won’t hit until September 17. But we’ve got an exclusive quote on the series from Gedeon, below.

As revealed earlier today at AIPT, the new miniseries updates the classic cartoon series from 1992, and fits it into the ongoing story of the nascent Nacelleverse. The book follows Marshal Moo Montana before he took the badge, set in the town of Moo Mesa where crime runs rampant and udderly ridiculous conspiracies stretch all the way back to the town’s founding.

Here’s Gedeon’s statement on the book, as provided to Comic Book Club:

“I loved Moo Mesa as a kid—Dakota Dude was my favorite! The heroes looked badass but still kind, which I found awesome. I wanted to be like them when I grew up. Now that I’m 38, it’s wild realizing the real villains were the sheriff and the mayor, the people who should actually protect the citizens. Thank God that only happens in cartoons, right? Bringing these characters to life has been the most fun I’ve had in years. Matt’s scripts are amazing, I laughed out loud several times while reading them. Getting the faces right nearly broke me—I spent full days stuck on just one, but now I finally got the hang of it…I think! I’m aiming to create a book that hits for both lifelong fans and kids who’ve never heard of Moo Mesa—something that captures the heart of the original but levels it up for a new generation.”
