David Marquez’s art on Uncanny X-Men has been a hit. And now he’s ditching Famous Online Troll Gail Simone (just kidding, she rules) for the new Image Comics series The UnChosen, which Marquez will both write and draw for Image Comics.
“Going back to the very beginning, Image has a long tradition of providing fan-favorite talent creative freedom and a platform for greater success after they’ve done their time at Marvel, so it’s always exciting to welcome someone as incredible as David into the fold,” said Eric Stephenson, Chief Creative Officer and Publisher at Image Comics, via press release. “My first exposure to David’s work was All-New X-Men, but he’s done just about everything at Marvel—Spider-Man, Iron Man, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy—before returning to the X-Office to help Gail Simone turn Uncanny X-Men into one of last year’s biggest relaunches, and it has been amazing to watch him go from awesome to even more awesome along the way! The UnChosen is the logical next next step in his creative journey—we’re going to need some new superlatives!”
In the new series, a 13-year-old named Aida wakes up in a devastated city — only to discover she caused that devastation. Now she’s being chased by forces who want to control her, while she needs to discover what these powers are and where they come from.
“Action. Magic. Drama,” Marquez added. “The UnChosen is the comic I couldn’t find—so I made it! A high-octane fusion of fantasy, sci-fi, and superheroics with bold world building and big stakes.”
The UnChosen #1 hits comic book stores on July 9, but you can check out a preview below. Click the images for larger versions.
