On today’s episode, we’re discussing some of the highlights from Marvel’s August 2025 solicits, including Thor, Black Cat, and more.
This is Comic Book Club News for May 26, 2025.
Marvel August 2025 Solicit Highlights:
Marvel has a bunch of new titles launching in August, so let’s start with those new number ones. First off, because you demanded it question mark, X-Men of Apocalypse Alpha from Jeph Loeb, which brings the Age of Apocalypse X-Men into the main 616 universe. Then Marvel All-On-One pits The Thing against the Marvel Universe from Ryan North and Ed McGuinness, all told in full-page and double-page splashes.
Thor #1 presents a brand-new status quo for the title character from Al Ewing and Pasqual Ferry. Black Cat #1 turns Felicia Hardy into a hero — sort of — from G. Willow Wilson and Gleb Melnikov. And All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #1 rewrites history so that Gwen was always part of the 616. Hey, maybe she’ll meet the Age of Apocalypse X-Men? Who knows?
In Captain America #2, Cap fights Doom back in time, and also introduces the character find of 2025: David Colton, who is a regular guy. The cosmic Imperial event expands, revealing the villain behind everything in Imperial #3, and launching two one-shots — Imperial War: Black Panther, and Imperial War: Planet She-Hulk. And Predator Kills The Marvel Universe #1 brings together the threads Benjamin Percy has laid through various solo series.
Amazing Spider-Man #9 and #10 find Peter Parker trying to get stronger by any means necessary after losing to new villain Hellgate. All-New Venom #9 teases that Mary Jane’s home life goes “from bad to worse.” Cyclops goes to jail in X-Men #21. Gail Simone brings back Deadpool and Outlaw in Uncanny X-Men #19. And Gabby returns in Laura Kinney: Wolverine #9.
Over in the Ultimate Universe, Miles Morales meets the X-Men in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #3. Peter, MJ, Gwen, and Harry go out to dinner in Ultimate Spider-Man #20. And meet Ultimate Shang-Chi in Ultimates #15.
And for something completely different, Jason Aaron spins his successful Uncle Scrooge & The Infinity Dime into a new four-issue miniseries, Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck. If you’re a fan of video games, you’ll want Marvel Rivals: Hellfire Gala #1, which ties into the hit game’s ongoing event. Jeff the Land Shark #3 sends Jeff to Madripoor to team up with Wolverine and Psylocke. And Incredible Hulk #28 teases “the biggest status quo change in Hulk’s history.”
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. Maybe Hulk will finally stop being angry, that would be a change.
