After three seasons, Netflix’s Heartstopper, the adaptation of the hit WEBTOON and graphic novel series by Alice Oseman, is ending. But first, there’s going to be a feature film adapting the as-yet unreleased sixth graphic novel.
“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” Oseman said via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”
Announced on the third anniversary of the launch of season one, the final installment will find Nick (Kit Connor), Charlie (Joe Locke), and all their friends growing up and discovering whether young love can survive getting older.
The movie will be directed by Wash Westmoreland, and Connor and Locke will serve as Executive Producers. Oseman will once again write the movie, which will be produced by See-Saw Films. Additional EPs include Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Oseman, and Euros Lyn.
Here’s the synopsis for the movie, which does not currently have an announced release date. Heartstopper Volume 6 also doesn’t have a release date, though it was expected to be released last year.
Also unknown at this time is whether the movie has a theatrical run… Though it’s a fair bet that it’ll get one in the UK, at the very least:
Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?
