Gail Simone To Write Rebel Moon Comic For Titan:
Somehow, Rebel Moon has returned. Not only is Titan publishing a brand-new prequel to the movies from Zack Snyder, but the comic will be written by none other than Gail Simone.
Said Simone via press release, “I feel like this story was a little bit destined to happen, somehow. My family and I were watching REBEL MOON and really enjoying it, and I just immediately focused on Nemesis. I loved the badassery of her, but also the way she addressed grief, and recognized it in others. I just was completely smitten with her, and I actually said to my family, ‘Man, I would love to write her someday.’ Well, someone was listening because I get this message that Zack would like to talk to me about writing that exact character. Who am I to argue with fate? She’s a powerful, powerful character, she leaps off the page (and screen) and I cannot even explain how much I enjoyed playing in this sandbox.”
The four-issue series titled Rebel Moon: Nemesis will feature art by Federico Bertoni, and explain the origins of the sword-wielding cyborg assassin. The first issue will hit stores on July 16, 2025.
X-Men To Hold Hellfire Vigil:
One year ago, the X-Men’s Krakoa era ended. And to mark the occasion, rather than a Hellfire Gala, Marvel will release X-Men Hellfire Vigil #1, a giant-sized one-shot written by Jed MacKay, Gail Simone, Eve L. Ewing, and more, with art by Luciano Vecchio, Javier Garrón, Sara Pichelli, and more.
Said Editor Tom Brevoort via press release, “We’ve been working towards the Hellfire Vigil for a year now, and all of the assorted X-creators came together to make this a moment of significance for the X-Men and their world as a whole. If you’ve been wondering when somebody was going to encounter somebody else, the answer is right here in this book! It’s a capstone to events that began in From The Ashes and sets up major movements that will be playing out across the coming months. Plus it’s full-packed with great art and great character moments.”
In the issue, mutantkind all gather to reflect on the loss of Krakoa, and Marvel promises that “the glamourous party will be filled with reunions, returns, and revelations, all setting the stage for the next year of X-Men storytelling!” Does that mean Kevin Feige will be back to memorialize the end of an era? Probably not.
X-Men: Hellfire Vigil #1 hits stores on July 2.
Grant Morrison Heads Back To Superhero Comics:
In a rare non-Gail Simone news item for this podcast, Grant Morrison is heading back to the Big Two to write what he calls a “mainstream superhero comic.”
Per Bleeding Cool, from Morrison’s Substack, the writer said, “Curiously enough, I accepted another unlikely comic book team-up project offered to me last week. It’s Big 2, with an artist I love dearly, and although it’s been a long time since I’ve had reason to write mainstream superhero comics, I got an idea straight away and couldn’t wait to do it, so expect a very unlikely announcement sometime soon!”
As the site notes, Morrison last worked for DC in 2021, and Marvel in 2004. The writer recently penned pages in a special issue of Image Comics’s Ice Cream Man, but has mostly been working on their own projects, including TV and movie scripts.
Could Morrison’s project in some way be related to something writer Mark Waid teased at WonderCon, that an announcement is coming imminently about DC’s Legion of Super-Heroes, with a new writer taking over the title? Morrison has never written the future-set superheroes, other than in 1999’s DC One Million event, and a few issues of Action Comics back in 2012, and it seems like a natural fit.
That’s pure speculation, though. Whatever Morrison is working on, we should know soon enough.
