It’s not just the “Summer of Superman” in DC Comics, it’s also the summer of Superman, the movie, hitting on July 11. And to celebrate, the publisher has assembled a Justice League of art superstars to offer up cardstock variant covers inspired by the new film.
Those artists include Nicola Scott, Jim Lee, Dan Jurgens, Dan Mora, Jerry Ordway, Jorge Jiménez, Kevin Maguire, and Frank Quitely. And the better news? Other than Maguire’s cover, we’ve got an advances look at all of them, right here, right now, in celebration of Superman Day.
What is Superman Day, you may ask? Great question. It’s on Friday, April 18, and is the anniversary of the publication of Action Comics #1, aka the book that started it all (it all being “superhero comics”). While these “Superman Movie” variant covers will continue to publish throughout the summer, tomorrow participating comic book stores will release an array of Superman-related books, including new prints of All-Star Superman, Superman for all Seasons, and many more.
