G.O.D.S. RETURNS WITH ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM ONE-SHOT:
Marvel’s G.O.D.S. is not dead, as the characters created by Jonathan Hickman and Valerio Schiti are returning in a one-shot tying into One World Under Doom.
While Schiti will provide a cover for the one-shot, the issue will be written by Ryan North with art by Francesco Mortarino, and show how the factions tied to magic and science in the Marvel universe react to Doctor Doom taking over the world.
Said North via press release, “I will say it is absolutely a fool’s errand to follow after Jonathan Hickman in a corner of the Marvel Universe that he personally invented, but G.O.D.S. are a lot of fun, and the chance to see where Mia and Wyn were after their story – and how Doom would intersect with all of it – was too alluring to let up. If you’ve never read G.O.D.S., this is a great way to meet the characters and if you have—welcome back. Mia is not having a great time of it, but Emperor Doom sees something in her…”
G.O.D.S.: One World Under Doom #1 hits stores on July 30.
Transformers Kickstarter Passes $2 Million:
Skybound’s Kickstarter for the Transformers Compendium Set has passed $2 million in 48 hours. In fact, as a graphic on the Kickstarter touts, it was funded at the posted $40,000 number in two minutes.
Per ICv2, the massive set includes two enormous volumes of over 1,000 pages each, with hardcover print editions starting at the $150 level. The books also feature a new cover by Daniel Warren Johnson, and are set for a planned release in December, 2025.
This is hot on the heels of the news that money pledged for comics Kickstarter projects were up 34% in 2024, with $46.5 million raised, including $3.37 million for Skybound’s G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero. That includes 3,412 comics projects total, with a 77.8% success rate in terms of getting funded. It seems likely given the current economic turmoil in the, well, world, that Kickstarter comics may continue to grow in 2025. In the meantime, with nearly a month left on the Transformers Kickstarter, we’ll see if it surpasses the G.I. Joe one last year.
GoComics Relaunches:
With the constant news of comic book websites shutting down, here’s some good news: GoComics, the platform for newspaper strips, has relaunched with a new and improved site.
Per The Beat, the site includes classic comics like Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, and Garfield, alongside all the puzzles you might expect on the Sunday funnies page, as well. The newer version of the site is more responsive and designed for mobile phones, easier to navigate, and has an updated commenting platform so you can really get scathing your commentary on Dagwood or whatever.
The site will continue to evolve throughout the year with articles, comics collections, and more features. While there is a free account available, you can get full access and ad free for $34.99 a year or $4.99 a month.
For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. All I’m saying is human beings can’t eat sandwiches that large, Dagwood, the human mouth isn’t built that way. I mean, come on.
