Grab the sword, the mask and the hat as Alien Books has snagged the Zorro comics license, with plans for remastered editions of the classic comics, and a brand new series.
Previously housed at Dynamite, American Mythology, and one project from Sean Gordon Murphy on Kickstarter, the Zorro license will be spotlighted with, per a release provided to Comic Book Club, “crowdfunding, retail projects, direct market releases, and book store titles.”
“We’re overjoyed to be working with Zorro Productions, Inc. to bring back classic Zorro stories in deluxe remastered editions and spearhead new and exciting adventures with some of today’s most talented comics creators,” said Alien Books Director and Editor-in-Chief Matias Timarchi.
Added John Gertz, President of Zorro Productions, Inc., “For decades we have utilized a fresh, innovative approach with top talent to enhance the Zorro’s universe of characters, the Zorro brand and franchise. Our relationship with Alien Books is yet another example of our commitment to our fans and Zorro!”
While a new series featuring the masked man is in the works, first up is a Kickstarter for a deluxe hardcover edition of Alex Toth’s Zorro series, from 1958. The hardcover will feature “remastered colors and lettering along with a story by Howard Chaykin and Eduardo Risso, premiering for the first time in English.” In addition, the April 23 launching crowdfunding campaign will include “deluxe add-ons including limited edition Zorro busts, trading cards and prints.”
You can check out some temp designs for the Zorro hardcover below, and future Zorro projects will mark their mark through IDW Publishing’s solicits, as they entered into a distribution agreement with Alien Books a few weeks back.
