This is Comic Book Club News for April 8, 2025.

Wolverines & Deadpools Teams Up The Characters For Marvel:

Like James Cameron going up to the whiteboard and putting a dollar sign after “alien,” Marvel is launching a new miniseries titled Wolverines & Deadpools.

Written by Cody Ziglar with art by Rogê Antônio, the new three-issue mini will find Logan, Laura, Wade, and Ellie all teaming up to fight a classic X-Men villain. Who is that villain? Probably one that has a smaller, female version of himself, but that’s pure speculation.

Said Ziglar via press release, “The past 15 issues I’ve spent writing Wade and Ellie have been a dream come true. Getting to finish out their journey with two of the coolest mutants is just a cherry on top—I can’t explain just how much I look forward to exploring the father-daughter dynamics with these four!”

So yeah, if you didn’t pick up on that, it also means Ziglar’s run on Deadpool seems to be at a close, as well. What’s next? We’ll likely know in October, as Wolverines & Deadpools #1 hits stores on July 2.

Diamond May Not Get Sold To Alliance After All:

Thought things were settled with the purchase of Diamond Comics Distributors by Alliance Entertainment? Think again. After Alliance was deemed the winner of the auction for Diamond’s assets after their bankruptcy, Diamond seemingly changed its mind and wants to go with the second-highest bid, from a consortium of two companies: Universal Distribution, LLC, and Ad Populum, LLC.

Except Alliance alleges that Diamond didn’t change its mind but in fact has been working with Universal and Ad Populum since before the auction to favor their bid. Why? That’s unclear, particularly since Alliance is planning on purchasing the bulk of Diamond’s assets, while the Universal/Ad Populum deal isn’t just $3 million lower, it would split the assets between the two companies.

As of this recording, the case is in front of a judge so may already be settled. But if Diamond’s preferred deal goes through then Diamond UK and Alliance Games will head to Canadian distributor Universal, while Ad Populum, which currently owns NECA Toys, Party City, and others would nab Diamond Comics Distributors, CGA  and Diamond Select Toys.

More on this as it develops.

Jack Kirby Exhibit Heads To LA’s Skirball Center:

Jack Kirby is taking center stage in a new exhibit at Los Angeles’s Skirball Center. Titled Jack Kirby: Heroes and Humanity, the retrospective will debut in May.

Including, per a press release, “rare comic books, original illustrations, fine artworks, and ephemera that illustrate his life, inspirations and vast body of work,” the exhibit starts with Kirby’s birth in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, through his career at Marvel and DC, and beyond.

Some highlights include Captain America Comics #1, Kirby’s US Army uniform, original art from X-Men #7 and Avengers #1, an unpublished pencil portrait of Darkseid, and and unpublished piece titled “Paul and Linda Meet Magneto,” which depicts Paul and Linda McCartney hanging out with the mutant leader.

You can check out the exhibit for yourself from May 1, 2025, through March 1, 2026.
