It may be impossible to break out of Alcatraz, but Oni Press‘s new title Out of Alcatraz has had no problems breaking out with fans and comic book stores. As Comic Book Club can exclusively reveal, Out of Alcatraz #1 has sold out at the distributor level, and will head back for a second printing.
Hitting stores on April 23, the Out of Alcatraz #1 second printing will feature a newly redesigned cover by artist Tyler Crook. It will debut the same day as Out of Alcatraz #2 hits stores, meaning if you did miss the first issue of the new series because of the sell-out… Great news, you can lock down both issues in your collection tighter than a criminal imprisoned on The Rock.
What is Out of Alcatraz? The first, double-sized issue written by Christopher Cantwell, with art by Crook, focuses on an urban legend: the escape of three convicts from the otherwise inescapable Alcatraz. Here, Cantwell imagines two of them, Frank Morris and Clarence Anglin, on the run in 1962. After getting together with their handler, things quickly start to go wrong thanks to the feds chasing them down, more crooks after them, and getting hoisted on their own petard. But, you know, not in a funny, comeuppance way.
The book will run for five issues, so you better catch ’em before they disappear across the border forever. You can check out the cover for the second printing of issue #1 from Oni Press, below.
