While not quite the 400,000 copies Batman #158 sold or the 668,000 copies Planet Death #0 sold (somehow), Dynamite has announced a still extremely impressive 84,000 orders for the initial print run of their new Vampirella #1.
Per the publisher, the number includes “all orders from fans and retailers through Diamond Comics Distributor, specialty retailers, and creator exclusive variant covers.”
Hitting stores next week on March 26, the new volume of the series continues the run by writer Christopher Priest, who took on the book starting in 2019. The latest arc, titled “The Long Night,” reunites him with artist Ergün Gündüz, letterer Willie Schubert, and editor Matt Idelson. It will feature both the new #1 on the cover, and a legacy numbering of #676, as they continue the slow march to issue #700.
In the issue, Vampirella has given birth and is dealing with post-partum depression when a man from the future — who may be the grown-up version of her son — arrives. What follows is the return of other members of Vampirella’s family, a dark cyberpunk future, and more.
Also: shouts to Dynamite for providing consistent, reliable sales data. The more we can get of this from comic book companies, the better it is for everyone. Rant over!
