After 10 episodes, Harley Quinn Season 5 has wrapped up Harley (Kaley Cuoco) and Ivy’s (Lake Bell) Metropolis adventure. And with the girls back in Gotham City and raring to go, what can we expect in Harley Quinn Season 6? But more importantly… Will there even be a Harley Quinn Season 6? Has the show been renewed? Canceled? Ahhh!
Full disclosure up top, as of this writing there have been no decisions about whether Harley Quinn has been renewed or canceled, or what the Harley Quinn Season 6 premiere date will be, if it is renewed. That said because you click out immediately, we’ve got a pretty solid track record here at the ol’ Comic Book Club for educated guesses on renewals and cancellations, as well as premiere dates.
So with that in mind, let’s get into what we know so far about Harley Quinn Season 6.
Has Harley Quinn Been Renewed For Season 6? Has Harley Quinn Been Canceled?
As mentioned above, there has been no announcement yet about whether Harley Quinn has been renewed or canceled for Season 6. However, there’s pretty good reason to think that the show will be renewed for Season 6.
First of all, there was an interview on The Direct with showrunner Dean Lorey which was published on February 20, where he seems upbeat about the possibility. “We have been talking about if we get a Season 6 – and we all certainly hope we do – what that might look like,” Lorey said. “And I think internally, we’re all really excited about what that season would be. And it’s something very different, and I think unexpected. So, we do have some thoughts for it.”
That’s all well and good but “hope we do” is far from a confirmation. That said? Let’s talk about some previous seasons to get an idea of how long we may have to wait. Season 2 of the series was produced simultaneously with Season 1, which is par for the course for modern animation. Season 3 was announced about three months after Season 2 ended, while Season 4 was announced about a year before Season 3 premiered. Season 5 was announced about two months after the Season 4 finale.
Point being it’s a little all over the place, but waiting a few months after the Season 5 finale for a Season 6 announcement isn’t anything irregular.
However, beyond “it just hasn’t happened yet” there’s a good reason to think Harley Quinn will be back for Season 6 simply because of DC Studios’s plans for animation. Lorey is a busy guy when it comes to that, also working as showrunner on Creature Commandos, but that also means he’s important to the studio, and clearly has a passion for Harley Quinn. In addition, James Gunn has lightly committed to releasing two animated series to Max per year. Three have been greenlit — My Adventures with Green Lantern, Starfire, and DC Super Powers — in addition to the currently running My Adventures with Superman. However, if they want to hit that pace, it’s important to have a show like Harley Quinn which is ready to go into a sixth season, versus one that may require more time and development.
To that point? I think it’s likely we’ll see Harley Quinn Season 6, though it may be the final season as DC Studios amps up its slate with newer series.
When Could Harley Quinn Season 6 Premiere?
Assuming Harley Quinn is renewed for a sixth season, a lot depends on whether they’ve secretly started production or not. Lorey’s statements above aside, it’s not out of the ordinary to be much farther ahead with an animated show than you’re publicly stating — particularly because it takes a year and a half to two years to make a full season of an animated show.
If Harley Quinn Season 6 has already been picked up, we could see it as early as next January. However, more likely there would be a slightly longer gap than that. Previous seasons have premiered in November, April, July, July, and January, respectively. That doesn’t point to a specific pattern, but if Harley Quinn Season 6 is in the works in any way now, even if it’s breaking an overall story for the season, it could be officially picked up in time for San Diego Comic-Con, and then hit Max in July of 2026, one year later.
Again, that’s just a guess. But may Harley herself strike me down if I’m wrong.
