Fun fact: today I learned that an “always-on podcast” is a podcast that is released weekly, over the course of a year. Something we’ve been doing here at Comic Book Club since 2011. So… Cool! Anyway, DC and Realm are getting on the bandwagon we’ve been riding for over a decade with DC High Volume: Batman, a new scripted “always-on” podcast series that will adapt some of the Dark Knight’s greatest stories as audio dramas.
“DC is committed to creating new ways to reach a broader audience with engaging, accessible and high-production value adaptations of our most iconic and essential Batman comic stories, including the audio format,” said Anne DePies, SVP and General Manager, DC, via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “We want to offer audiences who may be new to DC a jumping on point for the Batman franchise, driving them back to our books, while engaging existing fans, podcast enthusiasts and audiobook listeners with direct adaptations that bring their favorite stories to life as faithfully as possible.”
The first four episodes will adapt nothing less than Batman: Year One, by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Next up? Batman: The Long Halloween.
DC High Volume: Batman will feature Jason Spisak as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Jay Paulson as Lt. James Gordon, Reba Buhr as Catwoman/Seline Kyle, Adam O’Byrne as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, Mike Starr as Carmine Falcone, Simon Vance as Alfred Pennyworth, Dan Gill as The Joker, Jesse Burch as The Riddler, Michelle Lukes as Poison Ivy and Kevin Smith as The Penguin.
The first two episodes will launch on April 2, adapting the first two issues of Year One, with new episodes hitting every Wednesday on all major podcast platforms. You’ll also be able to watch on the DC YouTube channel. And speaking of which, check out the official trailer for DC High Volume: Batman below. Good luck with the weekly podcasting, DC!
