Jonathan Hickman’s Imperial… Revealed!
Marvel teases shocking Wolverine secret.
Clover launches DC Art series.
This is Comic Book Club News for March 17, 2025.
Marvel Reveals Details On Jonathan Hickman’s Imperial:
Marvel has been teasing Imperial, a new project from Jonathan Hickman, for months. And now, we finally know what it’s about: nothing less than redefining Marvel’s Cosmic characters over a four-part event series.
Said Hickman via press release, “I’m very excited about this project as I’m obviously a huge fan of all things Marvel Cosmic. The goal here is to kind of do what we did with the recent Ultimate line for all of our space titles, except having the setup book (IMPERIAL) be more of an event than a world building exercise (like Ultimate Invasion). The art team is killing it and we’re all just very excited for what’s happening in this special corner of the Marvel Universe.”
Alongside art by Federico Vicentini and Iban Coello, the book will include Hulks, Black Panthers, Novas, Guardians and more as the galaxy finds itself on the brink of war. In essence, this seems to be in line with what Hickman did for the Ultimate Universe: kicking off with a setup miniseries, which will spin off into several different new titles.
Imperial #1 will launch on June 4.
Marvel Teases Most Shocking Reveal In Wolverine’s History:
Marvel is teasing what they call the most shocking reveal in Wolverine’s history. Per PR from the publisher, “In April’s WOLVERINE #8, Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo celebrate the milestone 400th issue of Wolverine’s solo comic series with a reveal no one will see coming…”
So what is that reveal? Well, you won’t see it coming, but the accompanying image shows Wolverine looking, stunned, at a piece of paper. So could it be that Wolverine can’t read?
Given we’ve already gotten revised origins, the death of Wolverine, and multiple twists and turns to his history, saying this is the most shocking reveal in 400 issues is a bold statement. We’ll find out more on April 16.
Clover Press Launches DC Art Of Series:
Clover Press is following up their lauded Marvel Art Of series with — what else — a DC Art Of series. The first volume will focus on artist Jorge Jiménez, and hit Kickstarter soon.
While details are light at the moment, the boutique hardcover book will include looks at Jiménez’s art including Superman, Justice League, Super Sons, and his five-year run on Batman, which has continued through James Tynion IV, Chip Zdarsky, and coming up, Matt Fraction.
The DC Art of JORGE JIMÉNEZ will launch soon on Kickstarter with, presumably, more to come from the series.
