This is Comic Book Club News for March 14, 2025.

Stan Lee Documentary Kickstarter Leads To Calls Of Abuse:

A documentary that has just hit Kickstarter about accusations of abuse surrounding the end of Stan Lee’s life has, itself, been hit with accusations of abuse.

The documentary is being created by Jon Bolerjack, who paints himself as Lee’s assistant in his final years. As has already been well documented, members of Lee’s entourage in later years participated in acts of elder abuse, and Bolerjack is reportedly trying to bring more of the circumstances around those acts to light.

However, Bolerjack also paints himself as Stan Lee’s assistant, when that does not seem to be true. In addition, though Bolerjack notes he was not able to stem the abuse despite trying, many commenters online have brought up that filming the circumstances and releasing the footage years later is suspicious at best. And adding fuel to the fire, Bolerjack is asking for $300,000 to finish the documentary, and offering Kickstarter rewards ranging from memorabilia, to tours of the places where Lee was reportedly abused.

Whatever the actual intent here, the public-facing result is that this seems like another attempt to cash in on Lee’s legacy. And to that, we say a resounding: gross.

Gerry Duggan Returns To Deadpool:

Ah, legacy numbering. Sometimes, an issue is Deadpool #15. And sometimes it’s also Deadpool #350, and welcoming back superstars from the past like Gerry Duggan for a back-up story. And that’s exactly what will happen this June as Duggan and Matteo Lolli will offer up an all-new tale in the Marvel Comics issue.

Along with the backup story, Deadpool #15 will also feature a main story by Cody Ziglar and Rogê Antônio featuring the return of Death Grip — the baddie who previously killed Wade Wilson. But wait, there are more backup stories! Ziglar teams up with Andrea Di Vito for a tale of Wade’s symbiote dog, Princess, and his employee, Doug. And Sanshiro Kasama and artist Hikaru Uesugi deliver an all-new installment of the manga Deadpool Samurai.

Deadpool #15 aka Deadpool #350 hits stores on June 25.

Marvel Launching New Thunderbolts*:

Just in time for a month after the new Marvel movie Thunderbolts* premieres in theaters on May 2, a brand New Thunderbolts* team will be hitting comic book stores with a lineup that also has almost nothing to do with the movie!

Written by Sam Humphries, with art by Ton Lima, New Thunderbolts* brings together Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier, along with Black Widow, Eddie Brock Carnage, The Hulk, Namor, Clea, and Laura Kinney Wolverine in a new ongoing series where the team takes on the jobs the Avengers can’t — or won’t.

In the new series, Bucky and Black Widow discover a “monumental threat to the Marvel Universe and recruit a group of individuals who will HOLD NOTHING BACK!” That threat? The Killuminati, whoever they are! They’re also not in the movie, I’ll tell you what.

One thing the new book does share with the movie, though? An asterisk at the end of the title, the thing everyone is psyched for in the new flick. Kids love asterisks. The first issue will debut on June 11.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. I actually got my kids some asterisks for their birthday, and you know what they said? Thank you. We love you so much. True story.
