This is Comic Book Club News for March 3, 2025.

Death Of Silver Surfer Arrives In New Marvel Comic:

In classic Marvel fashion, in advance of the Silver Surfer’s arrival on the big screen in this summer’s Fantastic Four: First Steps, the publisher is killing the character off in a new book titled, what else, Death of the Silver Surfer.

Written by Greg Pak with art by Sumit Kumar, the five-issue series pits Norrin Radd against a new enemy that, per PR “even the Power Cosmic can’t overcome.” In the series, this new enemy will attack the Silver Surfer and the Fantastic Four, and reveal ancient secrets about the Surfer that only Galactus knows.

All snark aside, this book seems to take place in the future, so is likely an out-of-continuity story of the type at which Pak excels. And in the movie, we’ll see the female, Shalla-Bal version of the Surfer, so it’s not exactly contradictory. Still, Marvel does pretty consistently kill off characters before their big screen debut, and this one will hit stores on June 11, about a month before the movie hits.

Toxic Avenger Teams Up With Jesus:

It’s the team-up that’s been foretold for millennia: The Toxic Avenger will join forces with Jesus Christ in a new series, The Toxie Team-Up, coming later this year from AHOY Comics.

Written by Mark Russell with art by Richard Pace, the first issue of the upcoming series will find The Toxic Avenger working side-by-side with the version of Jesus previously seen in AHOY’s Second Coming. Further issues will find Toxie coming into contact with other AHOY characters including The Jersey Devil, Acid Chimp, Dragonflyman and Stinger, and Swamp Cop.

Said Russell, “Toxic Avenger and Jesus Christ is the team-up that everybody has been clamoring for and I am not one to stand in the way. Just as in Second Coming, Christ shows that there are more tools in the box than just violence and that Tromaville, as strange as it is, is still a place that someone who grew up bullied by the jocks in the Roman Empire would recognize.”

The first issue of The Toxie Team-Up hits stores and local churches on June 11.

Eisners Announce Hall Of Fame Nominees:

The Eisner Awards have announced 18 nominees who may join this year’s Hall of Fame.

Per ICv2, of these 18 names, six will be chosen to join the storied ranks of comic book GOATs. Possible inductees include: Alfredo Alcala, Kyle Baker, Bob Bolling, Eddie Campbell, Roz Chast, Dan Clowes, Mark Evanier, Mike Friedrich, Don Heck, Junji Ito, Ben Katchor, Todd Klein, Peter Kuper, Lee Marrs, John Romita Jr., Posy Simmonds, Leonard Starr, and Rick Veitch.

Voting for the Hall of Fame is open to comics professionals now, and deadline for voting is March 20. The Eisner Awards will be announced as usual at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con.
