‘Invincible’: All 15 Alternate Marks In That Wild Post-Credits Scene

alternate marks in invincible season 3 episode 6

While there was plenty of heartbreak and devastation this week’s episode of Invincible,
“All I Can Say Is I’m Sorry,” the absolute wildest moment was saved for the post-credits scene. MASSIVE SPOILERS past this point, but Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) has assembled an army of 15 alternate Marks. And that means an event fans of the comic book series know as “Invincible War” is coming.

What is Invincible War? Well, you’re going to have to wait for the final two episodes of the season for more on that. But the short version is the five-issue arc — it lasted from Invincible #60 through Invincible #65 — brought in nearly every superhero from Image Comics for a massive event that left Earth in ruins, killed major characters, and permanently changed the status quo of the series. And it all comes down to this group of Alternate Marks from throughout the multiverse that Angstrom has assembled to take our Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) down.

With a quick shot of the group at the end there, you might have a lot of questions about who these Invincibles are, and what their backstories are. Full disclosure: things may change for the show, and even in the comic books some of them are just “Invincible, but looks weird.” That said, we’re going to do what we can to break down all 15 Alternate Marks introduced in this episode. Any we missed or got wrong, I’m sure you’ll let us know in the comments. But in a nice way.

That said, let’s get into it, and we’re going to give some massive spoilers for the comic books that may or may not pan out on the show. Particularly because we don’t know if any of the Image Comics characters will show up or not in the next two episodes, and they’re pretty crucial to taking a lot of these Marks down.

alternate marks on invincible season 3

1. Omni-Invincible

This one doesn’t really have a name from the comics, but we’ll call him Omni-Invincible because his costume has a color scheme reminiscent of Omni-Man. The reason he has that costume? In his dimension, he killed his father. He’s killed during the Invincible War, and later turned into one of the Reanimen.

2. Lensless Invincible

Coming from a terrifying dimension where Invincible doesn’t wear goggles, this Mark killed his version of the Guardians of the Globe — and easily takes them down in this dimension, too. He’s ultimately stopped by Darkwing, who sacrifices his own life to take Lensless Invincible into the dark dimension… Lensless kills him there, trapping himself inside.

3. Viltrumite Mark (Mustache Version)

One of several Marks dressed like a Viltrumite, this one is noticeable for his mustache. In the comics, he’s killed pretty quickly, and then turned into one of the Reanimen.

4. CW Invincible

Called this because his costume looks more like the sort of thing you might see on a The CW superhero series, we’ve actually seen this guy before. Angstrom had a vision of this Invincible destroying the city, and killing his wife in Season 2, Episode 8. In the comics, this guy is taken down by another Robert Kirkman creation, Tech Jacket, who blows both himself and CW Invincible to smithereens.

5. Exposed Forehead Invincible

As far as I can tell there’s no analogue for this guy in the comics. But he does have a really weird costume that exposes his forehead. It’s like a classic comic book head-sock, with the forehead part missing. I don’t know what’s going on here.

6. Dark Mark

This guy comes from a version of the universe where Omni-Man destroyed his house. That’s his core trauma: his house being destroyed. Seriously. Anyway, in the comics he destroys Sydney, Australia, and is later happy to see that his house is still around in this dimension. He gets trapped in another dimension by Angstrom, and then eaten by one of the other Alternate Marks. RIP.

7. Blue Mark

We don’t know much about this guy other than he’s killed by Savage Dragon in the comics (who probably won’t show up on the animated series), and comes back as one of the Reanimen.

8. Sinister Mark

As you can probably tell by his placement right in the middle of this tableau, Sinister Mark is the one you want to look out for. He comes from an evil version of the main dimension where he killed his own mom. He loves attacking, killing, maiming, etc, etc. However, after wrecking the world and threatening Angstrom (in the comics), he’s thrown into another dimension where — remember how we mentioned one of the Invincibles gets eaten? — he eats some of the other Invincibles.

9. Viltrumite Mark (No Mustache Version)

At least in the books there’s not much to him other than him being another Viltrumite version of Mark. He did kill Spawn, though, which almost definitely won’t happen on the show. And per the above, he also gets eaten.

10. Mohawk Mark

Other than Sinister Invincible, this is the guy you want to keep an eye on. He’s one of the biggest bads in the history of the comics, and actually way outlasts the Invincible War with some — if you can believe it — even bigger ramifications for the book/series. Mohawk Mark comes from a dimension where everything is a little different, down to multiple characters dying, Mark becoming emperor of the Viltrumite Empire, and also he has a mohawk. That’s probably the biggest change: the mohawk. In the comics, he’s also stranded in another dimension by Angstrom, but does not get eaten. In fact, he teams up with the “real” Mark to take down Sinister Mark, and is instrumental in beating Angstrom, as well. I’m actually not going to go any further with spoilers here for this guy because as teased he’s pretty crucial to the next enormous twist in the series. That’ll have to wait for another time.

11. Bulletproof Invincible

The joke in the comics is that this guy not only wears the Bulletproof costume that’s initially rejected by Mark, but he shows up late to the Invincible War and is almost immediately killed by the Reanimen. Obviously he’s here already in the show, so no jokes for you.

12. Grifter Mark

He’s got a mask like Grifter from the Wildstorm Universe, what do you want me to call him? Anyway, we don’t know much about his backstory. But in the comics he seriously injures Eve, which causes our Mark to kill him. Honestly, I’d kill him for the stupid mask, but that’s just me.

13. Flaxan Mark

Dressed in Flaxan armor, this Mark is killed in the books by Donald during an attack on the Pentagon. Cecil gets a broken arm in the process.

14. Prisoner Mark

We don’t know a ton about this guy, but we do know he was imprisoned for a year — maybe in the same place Nolan has been held all this time on the show? His look is an homage to Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith, which is fun, and in the comics he destroys Moscow, then gets stranded in that other dimension by Angstrom.

15. Long Haired Short King Mark

This Mark doesn’t have a version of Tech Jacket in his dimension, so doesn’t know how to fight him. Tech Jacket kills him immediately. RIP, Short King.
