After a long wait, Daredevil: Born Again is finally upon us, premiering on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. It’s a sequel to the Netflix series and will give Matt Murdock a fresh start in the MCU. And while you might want to rewatch the series to get prepped, with new villains and old favorites, we’ve got a list of the best Daredevil comics to read before the new show debuts.
From the title of the series, we can expect the show to take inspiration from the Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli novel of the same name — and many other comics. The trailer also hints at what’s to come — mainly what villains will appear this season. While we’ll get relevant developments on Kingpin and Bullseye. Plus, it’s exciting to see new faces, like the serial killer Muse. And even more thrilling is knowing Jon Bernthal is back at it as the Punisher.
Checking out the original work is always a great way of getting a better sense of these characters or creating new, interesting theories. If any of that is exciting for you, you’ll want to read the eight best Daredevil comics to comb through ahead of Daredevil: Born Again.

1. Daredevil: Born Again

Writer: Frank Miller
Artist: David Mazzucchelli
We couldn’t start this list any other way. Regarded by many as Miller’s magnum opus, Born Again has Kingpin doing everything he can to destroy Matt Murdock’s life. This beautiful story of struggle and rebirth feels more like a tale about the man behind the mask than the hero. And there’s a good chance we’ll see a bit of that on the streaming show, too.

2. Daredevil (2019)

Writer: Chip Zdarsky
Artist: Marco Checchetto
Zdarsky is one of the best voices for Daredevil. He understands the hero’s inner conflict and how he is a walking paradox. This run serves as both a character study and a deep discussion about the dilemmas of being a vigilante. This is also very important for Kingpin and his role in Zdarsky’s next story…

3. Devil’s Reign

Writer: Chip Zdarsky
Artist: Marco Checchetto
Using his powers as mayor of New York, Wilson Fisk hunts down every superhero in the city. We still don’t know if he’ll pursue a similar objective in Daredevil: Born Again, but he’ll have the same political role. Knowing him, it won’t be long until he uses that to go against Matt.
4. “Dark Art,” Daredevil (2010) #10-14

Writer: Charles Soule
Artist: Ron Garney
Muse steals the show during “Dark Art,” making it one of the best arcs of Charles Soule’s Daredevil run. He is a gruesome villain, and Garney’s style turns the impact to eleven. Hopefully, the show will also add Blindspot — Daredevil’s new partner — one day.

5. “Trial of the Century,” Daredevil (1998) #38-40

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson
At least Daredevil will have a new ally on the show: Hector Ayala, the White Tiger. In this story, Matt and Foggy must help him defend against a murder charge. If you like the series’s law drama aspect, then you’ll love this.
6. “Child’s Play/Good Guys Wear Red!,” Daredevil #183-184

Writer: Roger McKenzie, Frank Miller
Artist: Frank Miller, Klaus Janson
Is there a better way to celebrate Punisher’s return than with one of his best confrontations against the Man Without Fear? It’s always great seeing their moralities collide, and Matt gets a deeper understanding of Frank Castle here.
7. “Fog,” Daredevil #220

Writer: Dennis O’Neil
Artist: David Mazzucchelli
Matt gets a new love interest, Heather Glenn. Unfortunately, their relationship is hardly healthy, and she ultimately meets a tragic end. Prepare your stomach, as “Fog” is one of the character’s darkest stories.
8. “Roulette,” Daredevil #191

Writer: Frank Miller
Artist: Frank Miller, Terry Austin
Miller ends his run with not only the best Bullseye story ever but one of the greatest single issues of all time. Besides reflecting on how he’ll keep confronting the villain for a long time, Matt contemplates what drove him to become Daredevil. It encapsulates everything the hero is and will make you love him more.
