It’s the team-up that’s been foretold for millennia: The Toxic Avenger will join forces with Jesus Christ in a new series, The Toxie Team-Up, coming later this year from AHOY Comics. Also they’re releasing a Toxic Avenger pin-up special, but as they say, if it bleeds and the blood turns into wine, it leads.
Written by Mark Russell with art by Richard Pace, the first issue of the upcoming series will find The Toxic Avenger working side-by-side with the version of Jesus previously seen in AHOY’s Second Coming. Further issues will find Toxie coming into contact with other AHOY characters including The Jersey Devil, Acid Chimp, Dragonflyman and Stinger, and Swamp Cop and Schitt.
“Toxic Avenger and Jesus Christ is the team-up that everybody has been clamoring for and I am not one to stand in the way,” said Russell via press release. “Just as in Second Coming, Christ shows that there are more tools in the box than just violence and that Tromaville, as strange as it is, is still a place that someone who grew up bullied by the jocks in the Roman Empire would recognize.”
But wait, that’s not all… The Toxic Avenger Pinup Special will get you those pictures boss, real sexy, just liked you asked for. That will hit on May 14, followed by the first issue of The Toxie Team-Up on June 11.
Meanwhile, Matt Bors will continue to write the ongoing The Toxic Avenger series alongside artist Fred Harper, as well as an upcoming first trade collection to be published on April Fool’s Day.
Said Bors on the upcoming crossover comic (he also wrote Justice Warriors, which is where Swamp Cop and Schitt come from), “When I started writing the new Toxic Avenger series, I knew we could build this into some audacious comic crossovers. Toxie’s mutant gore and subversive charm make him the perfect foil to face off with the police of the polluted world of Justice Warriors.”
