What Is Jonathan Hickman’s New Marvel Event ‘Imperial’?

Marvel Imperial Teaser

Another day, another enigmatic teaser from Marvel Comics. This time it’s for Imperial, the upcoming… Series? Event? Vibe? From Jonathan Hickman, coming this summer.

Previously teased back in December with the tagline “Nature abhors a vacuum,” and if that’s true then I guess my KIDS are Nature because they do not want to CLEAN THEIR ROOMS, the new teaser doesn’t offer much more info. In the graphic provided, we see “The End of the Beginning…” and the helmet for a member of the Nova Corps sitting on some rubble. The art, by the way, is by Hickman’s Ultimate Spider-Man collaborator Marco Checchetto.

In addition, Marvel teases, “Stay tuned for more information on IMPERIAL, a Universe-sweeping project from visionary writer Jonathan Hickman launching this summer.” And in fact, it will debut in June, per the teaser poster.

Other than downgrading from vacuuming to sweeping (do Roombas invade the Marvel Universe?) we don’t know much else. Previously we speculated this could have something to do with Hickman’s dream project involving Cannonball and Sunspot, and given the space setting could still have something to do with the Imperial Guard (Cannonball hung out with them during Hickman’s run on X-Men). But that seemed to be a buddy comedy, and this does not.

Furthermore, will it have something to do with the upcoming Ultimate Universe Incursion event? Or is it something entirely different? We’ll know more, soon, unless Marvel decides to sweep the whole thing under the rug.
