Patrick McDonnell’s ‘Mutts’ To Release The “Title Panel Collection” [EXCLUSIVE]

Patrick McDonnell’s lauded, long-running comic strip MUTTS has always drawn inspiration from the world around it, including classic works of art. In fact, the Sunday MUTTS strips always include an homage to a great work of art in the first panel. And now, Comic Book Club can exclusively reveal those great works of art will be collected in the Title Panel Collection on Mutts.com.

Drawing (literally) from Jean-Michel Basquiat, Claude Monet, Gustav Klimt, and Théophile Steinlen, the new collection will feature prints, mugs, greeting cards, and decorative blankets including the Mutts-ified versions of these classic works.

“In MUTTS, I have taken inspiration from the beauty of both the everyday world and the incredible imagery that artists have created over the centuries,” said McDonnell via a press relese provided to Comic Book Club. “I enjoy the process of recreating works of art that have spoken to me.”

The tributes started in 1995 with Basquiat homage, then followed by with a “Jean-Moochel” piece, and homages to Théophile Steinlen’s Le Chat Noir, Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss, and Claude Monet’s The Waterlily Pond.

The Title Panel Collection is live now on the site. In addition, McDonnell’s upcoming picture books The Gift of Everything and The Gift of Nothing Anniversary Edition, will both be available on October 14 from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. If you pre-order on the MUTTS site, you’ll also get a free print from The Gift of Everything.
