Supergirl has arrived with a brand new series as part of the DC All In initiative, and as part of DC Comics‘s “Summer of Superman.” And in charge of the Maid of Might? Sophie Campbell, who will both write and illustrate the new title.
“I came up in the comics industry doing mostly graphic novels that I wrote and drew myself, so doing the same with Supergirl feels like I’m returning to my storytelling roots,” said Campbell via press release. “My main touchstones to Kara Zor-El were the stories and the wild costumes from the 70’s, the 1984 Supergirl movie, and the CW show, which I was a huge fan of. In creating this version of Supergirl, I’ll be drawing on some of those influences as the series unfolds.”
In the new series, Kara Zor-El will be making the move from Metropolis back to the town of Midvale. But while she’s been gone, it turns out someone else stepped up as Supergirl. Will the real Supergirl figure out who the imposter is, before it’s too late?

Not only will Supergirl have a new/old setting, she’ll also get a new costume, and a new “S” shield. You can speculate wildly about how much this brings her in line with the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie costume, but since we haven’t seen that yet? Who is to say?
Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, that’s who. Artgerm has redesigned the costume, and the new look will be featured both on covers and in the book itself.
“Having done artwork for video games, I’m pretty familiar with creating character designs and costumes,” said Artgerm. “In designing a new costume for Supergirl, I wanted to create something fresh while keeping the key elements intact. I adopted the theme of ‘sporty and fun, but packs a punch,’ and incorporated those elements in the costume; I also made changes to the chest symbol to give it a more dynamic spin. Sophie’s captured the look perfectly, and I can’t wait for readers to see it.”

Supergirl #1 will feature a main cover by Campbell, a card stock and foil variant by Artgerm, and other variants by Bilquis Evely, Pablo Villalobos, Joshua Middleton and W. Scott Forbes.
