After getting introduced in Spider-Boy, the brand-new Spider-Girl is swinging into her own ongoing series from Marvel, starting this June.
Written by Torunn Grønbekk with art by André Risso, the series will follow the character created by Dan Slott and Paco Medina, a hero from Hawaii trained by Bullseye to be the villain known as Funhouse. While her mutant abilities allow her to absorb other powers, at the end of her arc with Spider-Boy she got stuck with a “dark, twisted version of Spider-Boy’s arachnid powerset,” per PR from the publisher.
The new series promises to flesh out the character’s backstory, reveal more about her mutant powers, and also deal with the whole is she good or bad thing.
“Spider-Girl a blast—joyful, irreverent, mischievous, and righteous. Leaving Bullseye behind, she’s starting fresh in New York, exploring her new home and embracing her powers with fearlessness and a touch of innocence,” Grønbekk said via press release. “She eagerly jumps into fights others would think better of (often against some of our favorite Spidey villains!), and her arrival has definitely caught the attention of the criminal underworld – but maybe not for the reason one would think…”
You can check out the synopsis and main cover by David Nakayama for Spider-Girl #1, below. The series hits stores on June 11.
