What do you get when you mix writer Curt Pires with artist Amilcar Pinna in a new DSTLRY book? You get Galactic, a series pitched as like True Romance meets Star Wars and The Incal.
“Galactic blends the gritty lovers-on-the-run crime of True Romance with the lush sci-fi worldbuilding of Star Wars and The Incal,” said Pires via press release. “This is just the first in a slate of amazing projects I’m building with my favorite new publisher, all of them illustrated by world-class artists.”
Added Pinna, “On scope alone, this is one of the biggest projects I’ve illustrated. Shifting from massive spreads of space fleets and black holes—perfect for DSTLRY’s oversized format—to staccato gunfights in celestial dive bars, Galactic is sci-fi at its most dynamic and challenging.”
In the May-debuting book, we follow a “roguish bounty hunter” who has been ordered to retrieve a princess, who has run away to go on a “psychedelic death-bender. What should be an easy payday escalates into a collision course with an intergalactic war—and maybe (just maybe) an unexpected romance along the way. Also: a talking dog named Wolf pilots the starship.”
The first issue of Galactic will run 48 pages, and feature covers by Pinna, Dalton Rose, James Stokoe, and Tula Lotay. You can check them out below as well as interior pages. Click for larger versions.
