‘Action Comics’ New Ongoing Team Is Mark Waid And Skylar Patridge

For the past year on and off DC Comics has been running their “Superman Superstars” program in Action Comics, teaming up great writers and artists to tell out-of-current-continuity stories about the Man of Steel. But with the program ending in a few months, it’s time to bring on a new, ongoing team — and that’s none other than Mark Waid and Skylar Patridge.

Yep, that Mark Waid, the guy who Alexander Hamilton sees writing and says “yo, slow down, dude.” And on Patridge’s end, while the artist delivered back-up stories in this summer’s “Phantoms” arc, this will mark her first ongoing series work for DC.

Though this won’t be a “Superman Superstars” title, it will continue the ethos of the program, as the new arc starting with June’s Action Comics #1087 will jump back in time to spotlight Clark Kent during his stint as Superboy in Smallville.

“I start the book with Clark as a 15-year-old boy, learning to be a superhero for the first time,” said Waid via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “What is that like, learning to use your powers at that age? What kind of challenges are you facing? Skylar and I are also bringing Smallville a little more up to date—it still has that rustic feel to it, but farms don’t look like that anymore.”

In the first issue, Clark will head out of town to go to Metropolis’s Expo of Tomorrow. Teases DC, “Will Clark be able to blend into the crowd? Or is Superboy about to make his public debut?!”

Action Comics #1087 will feature a main cover by Ryan Sook, plus variants by Patridge, David Talaski, and Lesley “Leirix” Le. You can check them out, below.
