The Umbrella Academy returns!

This is Comic Book Club News for February 19, 2025.

Harley Quinn Meets Elvira:

In a team-up so obvious it’s surprising it’s never happened before, Harley Quinn will team up with Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, in a new crossover comic from the legendary team of Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti.

Released in collaboration with Dynamite Entertainment, DC, and Queen “B” Productions the new book will be written by Conner and Palmiotti, a team heavily associated with Harley Quinn after their run for DC Comics from 2013 to 2018.

Said Conner via press release: “What do you get when you slam a Maid of Mischief and a Mistress of the Dark together? Sheer chaos, escapades and fun! Holee pandemolee, who WOULDN’T wanna see the Vivacious Elvira and the Hijinky Harley Quinn get together for a bunch of wisecracking and clowning around? And a bit of naughtiness. Okay. Maybe a lot. I can’t wait to work on this book!”

While there aren’t any further details about the project at this time, Conner will provide covers for the series, which will launch some time this Summer.

Mr. Terrific Year One Tells The Character’s Origin From DC Comics:

How do you become the world’s smartest man? You can find out in DC Comics‘s terrific new miniseries, Mr. Terrific: Year One, which debuts in stores in May — just in time for the character’s big-screen appearance in Superman.

Written by Al Letson with art by Valentine De Landro, the book will also feature art by Edwin Galmon for the, per PR provided to Comic Book Club, “present-day sequences integral to the story.”

In the book, readers will find out more about the origin of, “genius-level inventor and Olympic champion, Michael Holt’s life” which “came to a screeching halt when his wife, Paula, and unborn son were killed in a car accident. The Holts once shared ambitious dreams of using their technology to help others, but after the tragedy, Michael retreats from society, selling Holt Industries to mysterious and craven tech billionaire Athena Prescott. Surrendering his dream sets off an explosive chain of events, taking the exceptionally intelligent Holt from the depths of despair to the heights of heroism as Mr. Terrific.”

Mr. Terrific: Year One #1 hits stores on May 28.

The Umbrella Academy Returns At Dark Horse:

First announced way back in 2020, The Umbrella Academy is finally continuing with the story of the Sparrow Academy this Summer, in a new book titled, The Umbrella Academy: Plan B.

By Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the new Dark Horse Comics book picks up directly after the events of Hotel Oblivion, the previous story arc for the lauded series.

Said Way via a press release, “Telling this story with Gabriel would become, as it is today, such a special part of my life. This is not only because we would evolve as artists— but because we had the opportunity to grow up over a pretty crazy adventure together. Each chapter of this story seems to form and coalesce into its own organism— sometimes as a screaming baby on a subway car, other times a bird kicked out of its nest— and it’s because of this I am just as excited for Plan B as I was when we went on this trip together with Apocalypse Suite.”

The new series will hit stores starting on June 11.
