Dynamite’s Gargoyles line s expanding in a demonic way with Gargoyles: Demona, a new series launching out of the Free Comic Book Day special.

Written by Greg Weisman with art by Frank Paur, the new series will focus on the history of the Gargoyles villain, showing how she evolved through time from the Dark Ages, through 1998.

“Demona has a thousand years’ worth of backstory that our other leads flat-out don’t have,” said Weisman via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “That creates a lot of opportunities for storytelling — and we have a monumental story to tell!”

And Paur’s inclusion is pretty monumental, too. He was co-showrunner of the original Gargoyles with Weisman, and also worked on X-Men: Evolution and Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. For this book, he’ll provide his first-eve interior comics work, per PR, “flowing from an idea he pitched to Greg himself and the pair proceeded to cook up together, alongside editor Nate Cosby, return of SLG era colorist Robby Bevard, and the teams at Dynamite and Disney.”

The first issue will hit stores in May with a cover by Paur, as well as Meghan Hetrick, Jae Lee, and Mark Spears. Check them out below, and click for larger versions.
