What if Donald Duck was Iron Man?
This is Comic Book Club News for February 12, 2025.
Diamond Planning To Sell Free Comic Book Day:
It may be called Free Comic Book Day, but it could sell for a fair amount of money. As reported by ICv2, among other assets Diamond Comic Distributors is looking to quickly sell off is FreeComicBookDay.com, the website that manages the annual event.
To get any worries out of the way: this year’s Free Comic Book Day will most likely still occur as usual. The comics have reportedly been printed, and other distributors like Penguin Random House and Lunar will have their product in stores well before the May 3 date.
However, with Diamond looking to have bids for its assets filed by March 19, a live auction featuring qualifying bids on March 29, and closings taking place on April 10, if there is a successfully bid for the website then some new company will be managing the annual event starting with any leftover business this year, while fully taking over the next year.
There are currently 30 companies in contention, though all under a Non-Disclosure Agreement. So whoever may be interested in Free Comic Book Day? We won’t know until some time in April.
Mad Cave Announces LA Strong Lineup:
Mad Cave Studios has announced the lineup for LA Strong, their new charity comic to benefit victims of the LA fires.
Included in the book are Brian Azzarello, Brian Michael Bendis, Christos Gage, Dan DiDio, Daniel Kibblesmith, Frank Tieri, Greg Pak, Jimmy Palmiotti, Jody Houser, Marv Wolfman, Paul Cornell, Sina Grace, Stephanie Phillips, Steve Orlando, Amanda Conner, Christian Ward, Michael Avon Oeming and many more.
100% of the profits from the book will be donated to creators impacted by the disaster. And in addition, Mad Cave has donated $10,000 to Binc, the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, to help assist booksellers in need.
LA Strong will hit shops on March 19, and can be pre-ordered now.
Marvel Asks What If Donald Duck Was Iron Man:
Marvel’s latest mash-up comic with Disney? What If…? Donald Duck Became Iron Man?
While Marvel and Disney have already mashed up classic cartoon characters with the Fantastic Four, Captain Marvel, and more, will they — this time around — have Donald grapple with his role in weapons of mass destruction? Or will Uncle Donald have to look himself in the mirror and realize he’s a rage-a-holic in “Mallard in a Bottle?”
Well, probably not. Instead, per the synopsis, the issue will find Donald forced to build armor by the Beagle Boys to break into Uncle Scrooge’s Money Bin. The big conflict? Can he do all this and make it to his date with Daisy Duck on time?
The issue will be on sale on May 28, so you can find out the answers then.
