The Super Bowl is all about rooting for your favorite team… But what if your favorite team is a bunch of killers and anti-heroes? That’s sort of the idea behind Marvel’s Thunderbolts* which dropped a brand-new trailer at this year’s Super Bowl.
The mash-up movie features Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) teaming up with the mysterious Bob (Lewis Pullman) for mysterious reasons. Oh, also, Bob — though it’s yet to be officially revealed — is the superpowered human known as The Sentry, which means we’ve got a bunch of lightly powered humans and one guy with the power of a million exploding suns. And not only that, he has a villainous alter-ego called The Void, and in the trailer various people are being turned into shadows while a large void-type cloud takes over New York. Hm, wonder who the bad guy is?
Here’s the official synopsis for Thunderbolts*, per Disney:
Marvel Studios and a crew of indie veterans who sold out present “Thunderbolts*,” an irreverent team-up featuring depressed assassin Yelena Belova alongside the MCU’s least anticipated band of misfits.
The film stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Edward Pierce, with David Harbour, with Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Jake Schreier directs “Thunderbolts*” and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek and Jason Tamez serve as executive producers.
Thunderbolts* hits theaters on May 2, 2025. Check out the Super Bowl trailer, below.
