Harley Quinn takes a departure from the main cast this week (for the most part) to give us the sad, heartbreaking origin story of Brainiac. And with it comes a pretty tight voice cast playing multiple roles. So who’s who in the Harley Quinn Season 5, Episode 4 voice cast? Yo that’s what this article is about, yo.
Before we get to that, a recap of the episode for some context, and spoilers past this point. Things start off on Colu, Brainiac’s home planet, with an episode that is titled (internally, at least), “Brainiac, The Origin Of.” And no spoilers, but remember that for later in the season.
Vril Dox (Brianiac’s real name) got a promotion from his computer program boss Mr. Starr. He’s also given a shrinking ray, which will also become important later. Colu is all about achieving perfection, and finding things from other civilizations that can help them reach that goal.
Not quite perfect? Vril Dox’s home life, where he does regularly exchange files (read: sex) with his wife, but his son, Vrill II, wants nothing to do with him. One day, while on a mission going out for the organization known as C.I.G.A.R.E.T.T.E.S. he returns only to find Colu destroyed and his wife dead. Driven mad, he thinks if he could have only improved Colu 1%, he could have saved them.
Visiting Krypton, he sees the planet is 93% perfect, while Kandor is 96%. To preserve that perfection, he shrinks them down and freezes the city in a bottle — and then does that with planets all over the universe.
That is until he visits Earth, the most unadvanced civilization he’s ever encountered. Side-note, and good joke about the Philly origins of the guys behind this show: Philadelphia is the least advanced city on Earth, with a negative 67% perfection.
What he does realize though is that Metropolis, the closest to perfection, would be a challenge to upgrade… And that’s exactly what’s been going on this season so far.
Back to the end of the last episode, Harley and Ivy are imprisoned by Brainiac, and discover that Brainiac has been driven mad: Koko, the monkey alien he’s been talking to, died years earlier and is just a skeleton (“He’s definitely f**king those bones,” notes Harley).
Lena shows up and we discover she’s in league with Brainiac, working to take care of the humans in Metropolis, while Brainiac takes care of everything else. Harley and Ivy get sent back home without their memory of events on the ship… Maybe. Over a meal of You Won’t Even Know It’s Jackfruit, Harley begins to make a Brainiac face with her leftovers…

Harley Quinn Season 5, Episode 4 “Breaking Brainiac” Cast: Who’s Who In The Voice Cast?

As mentioned, it’s a pretty tight cast this episode. Kaley Cuoco is Harley Quinn as usual, as is Lake Bell as Poison Ivy. Stephen Fry returns as Brainiac, and Aisha Tyler is Lena Luthor. We’ve covered all this in earlier rundowns, so you can read those for more on these fine folks.
Phil Lamarr pulls triple duty as Koko the alien monkey, Mr. Starr (Brainiac’s boss), and Citizen. Lamarr has done voices on the show before, and previously was the voice of Samurai Jack, Static, and was a cast-member of MAD TV.
Playing Kandor Woman is Mary Deaton, who has done multiple voices before on Harley Quinn including the Pippa Middleton impersonator a few episodes back.
And rounding out the cast is Jill Talley as Brainiac’s Wife, Vrill II (his son), and Mrs. Starr, the computer wife of Brainiac’s boss. Talley is the voice of Karen Plankton on SpongeBob Squarepants, and is married to SpongeBob himself, Tom Kenny.
