‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Trailer Takes First Steps Online

Fantastic Four First Steps trailer

The trailer for Fantastic Four: First Steps is taking its own first steps. After a brief teaser posted yesterday (February 3), the new trailer has launched online. Or it will, shortly. In like, an hour.

There are a lot of questions surrounding this movie, but one of the biggest one folks might have after glimpsing the footage from the film? No, it doesn’t take place in the main universe of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). In fact, it takes place in the 1960s in a retro-future world in another part of the multiverse. Meaning the Fantastic Four exist on their own Earth separate from the Avengers, Thunderbolts, Captain America, Iron Man, etc.

While there’s plenty of speculation that this will be the Earth that spawns Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, he’s not the antagonist of this movie. Instead, just like in everyone’s favorite Fantastic Four movie, Rise of the Silver Surfer, the bad guy is Galactus (Ralph Ineson). The good news is that this time the planet-eater isn’t a big cloud, he’s a big CGI guy, voiced by Ralph Ineson.

Also in the cast is Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. The movie is directed by WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman, and also stars Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, alongside Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles in mystery roles.

Yesterday, Marvel teased that “launch coverage begins” at 7 am ET. And indeed, that’s exactly what happened when the video cut to live, with footage of a rocket preparing for launch, and a countdown set for an hour from now. Meaning that the trailer will actually post at 8am ET, not 7am ET. So you can check back here then.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film, per Disney:

Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

The action adventure also stars Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne and Sarah Niles. Directed by Matt Shakman, produced by Kevin Feige and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis and Tim Lewis.

Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025. You can watch the teaser trailer, below.
