‘The Old Guard 2’ Finally Gets A Release Date

The Old Guard

After literal years of waiting, Netflix has finally announced the release date for The Old Guard 2. The sequel to the hit movie will hit the streamer on July 2, 2025. And not only that, they’ve released a behind-the-scenes video featuring a look at the stunt footage to whet your appetite.

Based on The Old Guard comic by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, the first movie was a well-reviewed action hit for Netflix — in 2020. And a sequel was quickly greenlit in early 2021. But since then, the project has been hit with snags and delays, with filming starting 2022 before the set caught fire, causing a pause in production. Then due to regime changes at Netflix, the film’s post-production was shut down five weeks in. And in October of 2024, the movie went back to set for two weeks of reshoots. Now, after five years, we’ll get to see the finished product.

In the series, a group of immortals known as The Old Guard operate as mercenaries, while also looking for newly activated immortals, led by Andromache of Scythia, aka Andy (Charlize Theron). The sequel is written by Rucka based on his comic book, directed by Victoria Mahoney, and stars Theron, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Vân Veronica Ngô, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Uma Thurman, and Henry Golding.
