Last year, former Marvel EIC and CCO Joe Quesada revealed his next big venture: becoming the owner of Idaho’s biggest comic book publisher, Amazing Comics. Cheekiness aside, Quesada has now revealed the first slate of big names joining him in the project.
As just announced at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, Amazing Comics will be recruiting, among others: Derek Kolstad (the writer and creator of John Wick and Nobody), J. Michael Straczynski, Steven Paul Judd (a writer on Dark Winds and Echo), Christopher Priest, Garth Ennis, Ethan Sacks, and Charles Dorfman.
But that’s just the writers. Including Quesada himself, the first titles will be drawn by Esad Ribic, Ryan Stegman, Ronan Toulhoat, and more TBA.
While the actual content of the books is under wraps for the moment other than Quesada’s own Disciple, a sci-fi retelling of Hamlet, this is a robust announcement of creative types on the projects. The comics and graphic novels will be published both in America by Mad Cave Studios, and internationally by Dupuis.
“Amazing Comics has been living in my creative journal since 2005 — I always knew it was in my future,” said Quesada via press release. “Having the opportunity to help rebuild Marvel and later become part of the Disney family was one of the greatest highlights of my career. It allowed me to play in almost every creative sandbox imaginable and collaborate with some of the most brilliant talents on the planet. Now, I get to take everything I’ve learned over two-plus decades at Marvel and pour it into Amazing Comics, bringing many of those incredible creators along with me. Our mission is simple: to tell great stories with stunning art and to build a true community between Amazing and our readers.”
