Scott Snyder And Hayden Sherman’s ‘Dungeon’ Getting A Movie From ‘Late Night With The Devil’ Producers

One of IDW’s most disturbing comics is getting a big screen adaptation. IDW Entertainment, along with production company Spooky Pictures, are adapting Scott Snyder and Hayden Sherman’s Dungeon for a feature film.

“DUNGEON was a book that required Hayden and I to go down some dark places,” said Snyder via a press release. “The result was something I’d honestly list as a career highlight. So I couldn’t be more thrilled to see Spooky Pictures and IDW bring it to the big screen! I’m a big, big fan of what they do. I can’t wait to see what comes next!”

Added Sherman, “This book was a special one to make. It allowed Scott and I to explore very foundational human fears in pursuit of a grounded claustrophobic thriller. The result is something I’m very proud of. It’s a joy to see it now taken further as Spooky Pictures and IDW work to bring DUNGEON to film!”

In the book, which was released under the “Dark Spaces” label, a father discovers a terrifying dungeon hidden in the woods. And as he explores further, along with others who have discovered similar dungeons, he realizes this is part of an intricate plan by a serial killer that may stretch back years, if not decades. It’s very scary, and heads towards an ending that will leave your jaw on the floor.

“There’s no shortage of serial killer stories in the marketplace. The challenge is finding one that is both terrifying and goes to places we haven’t seen before. DUNGEON is it,” said Spooky Pictures Co-Founder Steven Schneider. “We were instantly gripped, and couldn’t put it down. And even as longtime fans and producers in the genre, we found ourselves haunted by what we read. This is our SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and SE7EN, and we can’t wait to unleash it on audiences.”

Spooky Pictures was started by Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee and horror producer Schneider in 2020. Since then, they’ve released Strange Darling, Watcher and Late Night with the Devil.

There’s no news yet on writers, directors, or release date, so we’re sort of in a dungeon of our own, at least when it comes to further info on this project. In the meantime, the collected trade of Dark Spaces: Dungeon is available from IDW.
