G.I. Joe Silent Missions Returns For Five One-Shots:
G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 is a classic. The “Silent Interlude” issue by Larry Hama and Steve Leialoha is still remembered fondly to this day. And in celebration of the classic issue, Skybound and Image Comics are releasing a series of “Silent Missions” one-shots by an all-star array of creators.
Alongside the new issues, Skybound will also be publishing a reprint of the original issue, with a new letter from Hama. In it, Snake Eyes sets off on a solo mission, Storm Shadow gets introduced, and there are exactly zero lines of dialogue. The G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 Silent Missions Edition will hit stores on April 2, 2025.
Then throughout the rest of the month, new one-shots will hit stores, inspired by G.I. Joe #21. That includes Beach-Head by Phil Hester, Dani and Dan Watters on Jinx, Leonardo Romero on Spirit, Andrew Krahnke on Roadblock, and Wes Craig on Duke. The issues will release weekly in April, but shhh don’t tell anyone.
DC Is Teasing An Absolute Universe Crossover For Free Comic Book Day:
We comic book fans are an impatient lot. Even before DC Comics introduced the Absolute Universe, fans were already asking when the publisher would team up this new Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Well, we’re not quite there yet, but on Free Comic Book Day we’ll get a hint at how it’s all going to come crashing together.
In the DC All In/Absolute Universe 2025 FCBD Special Edition, Jeff Lemire, Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi introduce a “mysterious figure” per PR from the publisher, who is watching Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the “rest of the emerging heroes.” And not only that, “Dark forces begin to gather in the shadows… forces that have been waiting a very long time to shape events and seize control.”
With Lemire on the upcoming Absolute Flash, it’s likely this could have something to do with that. Or perhaps it will tie back to the tease of the Absolute Universe’s Legion of Super-Heroes and Booster Gold that we were left on, at the end of the DC All In Special. Or maybe neither of those things! Either way, we’ll know on May 3, aka Free Comic Book Day.
Atha Prime, Long-Lost Star Wars Character, Returns For New Marvel Series:
Proving there’s no such thing as a bad idea, Atha Prime, a character designed for Return of the Jedi but never used in the movie, will officially be making their debut in Marvel’s Star Wars: Jedi Knights comic book.
In fact, the character was almost used again as the “main villain for an unreleased Kenner toy line in the ’80s,” per a press release from Marvel. But Atha Prime was relegated to the bargain bin of history. Until now.
Written by Marc Guggenheim with art by Madibek Musabekov, Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 will feature Atha Prime on the cover, after getting teased in a Variant cover for Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #1.
Taking place before The Phantom Menace, the new series features icons like Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and more going on all-new missions — with Atha Prime as the baddie. The new series hits stores on March 5.
