G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 is a classic. The “Silent Interlude” issue by Larry Hama and Steve Leialoha is still remembered fondly to this day. And in celebration of the classic issue, Skybound and Image Comics are releasing a series of “Silent Missions” by an all-star array of creators.

“The importance of the Silent Interlude cannot be overstated,” said Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound, via a press release provided to Comic Book Club. “And in celebration of this historic issue, Skybound has invited five of the industry’s best storytellers to write and draw their own silent issue, each taking on a different G.I. JOE character. And while this event is inspired by Larry Hama and Steve Leialoha’s original masterpiece, each issue is singular in its approach and showcases the unique strengths of these incredible artists.”

Alongside the new issues, Skybound will also be publishing a reprint of the original issue, with a new letter from Hama. In it, Snake Eyes sets off on a solo mission, Storm Shadow gets introduced, and there are exactly zero lines of dialogue. The G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #21 Silent Missions Edition will hit stores on April 2, 2025.

Then throughout the rest of the month, new one-shots will hit stores, inspired by G.I. Joe #21. Check out the official synopses and covers, via Skybound, below.
