Creature Commandos Season 1 is done with today’s episode, “A Very Funny Monster.” But if you’ve hit the credits and are rocking out to “Hey God” by Juke Baritone, don’t turn off Max quite yet, because there is indeed a Creature Commandos end credits scene. And it’s a pretty goofy one.
The post-credits scene happens right after the full credits of the episode, and spoilers past this point. Earlier in Episode 7, Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour) tried to profess his love (again) for The Bride (Indira Varma). But she was having exactly none of it, and proceeded to kick him out of a tower, and then shoot him in the eye, leaving him for dead.
However, as we discover in the end credits scene, Frankenstein is not dead and is once again being nursed back to health by an old lady. Specifically, the old lady voiced by Maria Bakalova, who we saw with the Zac Efron lock-screen back in Episode 1. They’re both noisily sipping soup as Frankenstein waxes poetic about his paramour.
“When you think about it, if she didn’t love me why would she overreact as much as she did, right?” Frankenstein says. “Now I’m only more sure of the connection we have.”
He takes another sip of soup, and then asks, “What kind of soup is this?”
“Spider dropping soup,” answer the Old Woman.
“Well,” says Frankenstein. “Taste’s disgusting.”
“Yes,” agrees the Old Woman, who then takes another sip.
So I could spill a lot of ink here about what this means for Creature Commandos Season 2 and how Eric will amp up his pursuit of The Bride in dangerous ways. But it has about the same weight as the end credits scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 where Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his grandpa are eating cereal. It’s a tease the character will return, but is mostly there for the humor, not some sort of mic drop.
And just like that, Creature Commandos Season 1 is over. Not with a bang, but with a soup slurp.
