What If…? went fully off the rails with today’s episode, “What If… Howard the Duck Got Hitched?” And not only was the plot of the episode insanely over the top; the voice cast was too, with an array of MCU actors and veteran voice actors fleshing out the villain and cameo-packed cast. Wondering who is in the What If Season 3, Episode 4 voice cast? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
But first, a quick (quack?) recap of the episode, and spoilers past this point. Actually, first a quick recap of another episode as this particular “what if” scenario is a continuation of “What If… Thor Were an Only Child?” In Season 1, Episode 7, we discovered the answer is he would throw a massive, intergalactic party in Vegas. In the midst of that, Darcy met Howard the Duck…
…And that’s where we pick up here, with the duo going on a date, falling in love over nachos, getting a quickie marriage, and having a beautiful egg together. To be clear, Darcy gives birth to an egg, which they sing to every night. That is until the Grandmaster invites them to an all-expenses paid cruise.
They reluctantly take it, and even more reluctantly allow the Grandmaster to put their egg in a baby carriage so they can enjoy some adult time. It’s a trick, though, and at dinner they discover the plan is to cook and eat their special egg… Until Yondu shows up, and steals it.
Darcy and Howard manage to escape the Grandmaster in pursuit of Yondu and call Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury reveals that because a duck and a human had a baby during the “cosmic convergence,” it may be the most special, powerful being in the universe. We also get Nick Fury’s new catchphrase: “Fury oooout!”
Yondu is taking the egg to The Collector… But it looks like the Collector has become the collected, as Kaecilius (remember, the villain Mads Mikkelsen played in Doctor Strange? No? Okay) reveals he’s taken over and is going to use the egg to summon Dormmamu. S.H.I.E.L.D. shows up in the — pun intended — nick of time, and fights Kaecilius… But they also don’t think Howard and Darcy are ready to be parents for such a special baby.
Now in possession of the egg, Howard and Darcy escape to Jotunheim, where Frost Giant Loki is building a ski resort called Yodelheim. And it seems like they’ll actually be safe there — all Loki wants is to be the baby’s godfather — until Zeus shows up (remember from Thor: Love and Thunder? No?) and then Malekith and the Dark Elves show up (remember, from Thor: The Dark World? No?) and the Black Order shows up, then Thanos asking whether they’ve found any stones, and it’s a whole big mess.
Darcy and Howard manage to escape briefly, only to watch an entire army of baddies storming over the hill. They sing to the egg, which makes it begin to glow, and take out the armies with crackles of energy. It’s still too much though, until the egg hatches and takes out everyone except Zeus, who makes a hasty retreat: he has an orgy to get to.
With all the bad guys dispatched Fury apologizes… Seems like they’ll be good parents after all. Back on Earth, Howard and Darcy watch their perfect baby, Byrdie the Duck, sleep… Until she immediately wakes up and starts crying. Babies, am I right?

What If…? Season 3, Episode 4 “What If… Howard the Duck Got Hitched?” Cast: Who’s Who In The Voice Cast?
I mean, who isn’t in the voice cast, am I right? Actually, I am right because despite being packed with a ton of MCU actors, there is also a slew of veteran voice actors subbing in for them, as well.
Kat Dennings does indeed return as Darcy after playing the role in Thor, Thor: The Dark World, WandaVision, and previously on What If. Similarly, Seth Green is back as Howard the Duck — he’s had the role since an end credits cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Sure enough, that’s Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Clark Gregg is once again an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Phil Coulson.
Chris Hemsworth gets credited as Thor, though he likely didn’t have to do a ton of work for that: he only appears in a clip from the previous, Season 1 episode. On the other hand, that is Tom Hiddleston as Frost Giant Loki, and he’s returned to the voice role multiple times throughout What If, as well.
Michael Rooker, too, returns as Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Rachel House reprises her role as Topaz, the Grandmaster’s bone-dry second-in-command from Thor: Ragnarok, as well as previous episodes of What If. Tom Vaughan-Lawlor voices Ebony Maw, just like he did in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. And it is very funny to me, personally, that Josh Brolin does in fact voice Thanos here (as he has in previous What If episodes) mainly to shout something like “stones? are there any stones here?”
However, that was not Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster. Instead, it was comedian and impressionist Matt Friend making his Marvel debut — though not his Jeff Goldblum debut. He previously played the actor on an episode of Family Guy.
Jared Butler steps in for Mads Mikkelsen as the voice of Kaecilius, and no, this is not the Wizards’ point guard. He’s actually best known for subbing in Johnny Depp’s voice, playing Captain Jack Sparrow and The Mad Hatter in various Disney video games, as well as Rango in the Rango video game, a thing I did not know existed until this very moment.
Christopher Eccleston also does not return as Malekith. Instead, Steve French steps in. He’s the host of the weekly Unsolved Mysteries podcast, and is the announcer for numerous series, including Match Game.
Colm Feore is also not back as Laufey, ruler of the Frost Giants. Instead, the character is portrayed by Andrew Morgado, who you might know as Cliffjumper from Bumblebee, or Thomas Wayne from Batman: Arkham Shadow.
Kari Wahlgren steps in for Ophelia Lovibond, who played the doomed Carina, the Collector’s attendant, in Guardians of the Galaxy. Darin De Paul takes over Zeus from Russel Crowe, who was likely too busy making a funny voice in Kraven the Hunter to make a funny voice on What If. De Paul has done dozens of voices, but is likely best known as J. Jonah Jameson from the Spider-Man video games.
And last — but certainly not least — Hamish Parkinson returns to voice Beerbot 5000, after appearing as the iconic robot bartender in Thor Ragnarok.
