The first trailer for 2025’s Superman is here, and it will make you believe a man can fly. Again.
Written and directed by James Gunn, the movie is the official live-action kick-off of the DCU, the new movie and TV universe that is hoping to bring a little more, er, hope to the classic DC Comics characters. And that of course starts with the icon of hope himself, Superman.
David Corenswet stars as the Man of Steel, as well as his mild-mannered reporter alter-ego Clark Kent. But unlike previous takes on Superman, this isn’t a world where he’s operating alone. In fact, the DCU has had “heroes” for a good long while already — something fans of the currently running Creature Commandos on Max are well aware of. And in fact, despite starting a new universe, other movies and shows are already in canon, including The Suicide Squad and (most of) Peacemaker Season 1.
While we will see Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. crossing over into Superman, and possibly some other surprises, the other superheroes are new to the DCU. Those include Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner (aka Green Lantern), Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Maria Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, and potentially a few more.
Don’t worry, there are humans in the movie, too. Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) is working at the Daily Planet with Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) and Perry White (Wendell Pierce). The bad guy is Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), along with Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio) and Otis (Terrence Rosemore) by his side.
And not only that, James Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn will appear as businessman Maxwell Lord, along with our first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl, in advance of her own movie in 2026.
Superman premieres in theaters on July 11, 2025.
