Jim Lee Teases “Bigger News” Than ‘Hush 2’ For DC Comics In 2025

In an overarching profile on DC in The Hollywood Reporter earlier this week, DC president, publisher and CCO Jim Lee dropped an interesting tease. Specifically that even “bigger news” than Hush 2 is coming for DC Comics in 2025.

When asked about Hush 2, the sequel series Lee is returning to draw alongside writer Jeph Loeb in the pages of Batman, Lee answered, “Can I say we have bigger news than Hush even for next year? Can I say that?”

DC general manager Anne Depies agreed with the assessment, adding, “Yes, I would say I agree, but I also I would say Jim’s being humble.”

…Which seems par for the course for Lee, who is always humble and deferring praise, despite his stature in the industry. Which is all well and good, but what, if anything, can he be teasing? DC has already announced — and soft-launched — a reboot of their Vertigo imprint. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong 2, a sequel to the blockbuster hit has also already been announced. And the Absolute Universe and DC All In initiatives have been going strong for a while.

So what could Lee be hinting at? A DC reboot seems out of the question, since that essentially just happened with Absolute and All In (in the form of a revamp, rather than a clean slate). It’s likely not a publishing plan, as that’s a little drier in terms of announcements; though DC’s Compact Comics have been a best-seller and transformative for the industry.

Could it be a creator’s return, or something closer in tone to Hush 2? Sequel series to best-sellers like Watchmen already exist, and Batman: The Long Halloween is currently finalizing the trilogy started by Loeb and Tim Sale.

Given there’s a Superman movie debuting on July 11, 2025, it seems likely this announcement could have something to do with what Lee calls the “Summer of Superman” in the article. And perhaps the only perennial DC best-seller that does not have a sequel is Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s All-Star Superman. While a sequel to that doesn’t seem completely necessary, the original book ends with Dr. Leo Quintum, one of the main characters, revealing he has a project that lays behind a giant door in the shape of the Superman symbol, except with the number “2” in place of the “S.”

This is pure supposition, but certainly Grant Morrison returning to DC for All-Star Superman 2 after several years away (their last book was Superman and The Authority in 2021), alongside Frank Quitely, who I don’t believe has done interior work in years (he’s mostly stuck to covers, including an upcoming one on Absolute Batman) would be a huge event. And in fact, Morrison teased the team was reuniting for something almost a year ago on their Substack. Since then… Nothing.

So is the mystery project All-Star Superman 2? Or something entirely different? We’ll know more, next year.
