Creature Commandos Cast: Who’s Who In Episode 4, Including Stephanie Beatriz And Linda Cardellini?

Creature Commandos Rick Flag Sr Amanda Waller

The fourth episode of Creature Commandos on Max was a big, wild one with some jaw-dropping teases for the future of the DCU… But all of those roles remain unvoiced as of this episode. Don’t worry, though, there are still plenty of cameos in the Creature Commandos Episode 4 voice cast. And we’ll break ’em all down, here.

First though, a bit of recap of the episode, and spoilers past this point. In “Chasing Squirrels,” we start with Rick Flag Sr. and Princess Ilana making out in Pokolistan, after stopping Circe and her attack on the Princess. She says she has feelings for him, he can’t face up to that yet. So it’s back to the United States, and Belle Reeve to find out just what Circe is up to.

That’s when we check in with John Economos, the sarcastic tech who has previously appeared in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. Weasel’s lawyer is wondering where he is… Her name is Elizabeth Bates, she’s from the Freedom Project, and believes her John Doe client is innocent of all those child murders. The big issue is that Weasel is, uh, Weasel, and doesn’t talk or seem to know what’s going on at any point.

And yep, you guessed it! This episode is the Weasel flashback episode, as we find out what really happened leading up to his arrest. Turns out it’s a Rube Goldberg tragedy, and not his fault at all. After befriending some kids playing on a schoolyard, they end up wandering around their abandoned school as a local old man thinks they’re being attacked by some sort of monster. They grab a bottle of liquor from their teacher’s desk, and take it down to the basement to play with matches, and play baseball with paper balls and the liquor bottle as a bat. You know, kid stuff.

The old man shoots at them, breaking the liquor battle just as a kid lights a match, starting a fire. It’s fine, they party around the fire, until the old man fires his gun at Weasel, again… Blowing them all up. Weasel is able to rescue one little girl and tries to pull her to safety, but the cops arrive and proceed to shoot Weasel several times, taking him into custody and letting the little girl die. So yeah, he’s innocent, but can never tell anyone the truth.

Back in the present, Eric Frankenstein shows up and mistakenly thinks Rick is in love with The Bride. He freaks out, kills all the men he’s hired to find her, and heads off after Rick. We’ll loop back to that in a second.

Meanwhile, Waller interrogates the beaten Circe, who has her hands bound since she uses them for magic — but explains that she’s clairvoyant, and has seen a dark vision of the future where Ilana destroys the world. She gives Waller that vision, and we get to see what Circe saw… Ilana, likely controlled by The Flash villain Gorilla Grodd, using her army to drop nukes on the world, blow up the Daily Planet, and take over the White House.

Oh, and also the Justice League is dead. Yep, we get to see a classic tableau of a field of bones, Peacemaker dead in the foreground, and Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman impaled in the background. Other characters are there, too, including Vigilante, Hawkgirl, Supergirl, and others… possibly Metamorpho, though maybe one of the Green Lanterns from Lanterns. It’s a dark preview of the DCU, and wild to just throw it in the middle of Creature Commandos Episode 4.

In any case, after Doctor Aisla McPherson shows up and explains that Circe’s visions have come true in the past, that’s enough for Waller to decide the team needs to go back to Pokolistan and kill Ilana. Rick refuses, and tries to warn Ilana that Waller is coming for her. In the process, he gets attacked by Frankenstein at his home. Rick explains that he has feelings for Ilana, not The Bride, which calms Frankenstein down enough that they have tea and talk about little known movies like Titanic and When Harry Met Sally.

They decide to team up to save Ilana, while The Bride is recruited to take the rest of the team back to Pokolistan to kill Ilana. The episode ends with Nina Mazursky wondering what Weasel is dreaming about, with The Bride saying, “Probably chasing squirrels.”

Creature Commandos Season 1, Episode 4 “Chasing Squirrels” Cast: Who’s Who In The Cast?

Steve Agee as Economos and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr in Creature Commandos

We won’t recount the recurring cast from the episode (you can check out previous breakdowns) for that, and unfortunately as mentioned above there are no explanations of who is playing the voices of the Justice League… Because they’re dead. Same with Gorilla Grodd, who likely will get voice cast in a later episode.

But that’s okay! Let’s talk about who we can talk about, starting with Steve Agee who does indeed reprise his role as Economos from The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. He’ll also appear in the second season of Peacemaker, which is coming to Max next year.

Stephanie Beatriz shows up as Aisla MacPherson, and you likely know her as the dry and sarcastic Detective Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She’s also been the voice of Mirabel Madrigal from Encanto, and Vaggie from Hazbin Hotel, among others. Recently, she starred in Netflix’s hit A Man on the Inside. Curiously, there is a character named Isla MacPherson who teaches at Gotham Academy in DC Comics, and this character seems to be based on that but is clearly spelled differently.

Linda Cardellini, meanwhile, shows up as the voice of Elizabeth Bates from the Freedom Project. And where don’t you know Cardellini from? She was Velma in two Scooby-Doo movies, which were both written by James Gunn. She played Laura Barton, Hawkeye’s wife in the MCU. She’s appeared on ER, Bloodline, Freaks & Geeks and Mad Men. And to continue the James Gunn connection, she was Lylla in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the sweet otter who befriends Rocket Raccoon. For what it’s worth, Bates is a deep cut character from a title called Hit Comics published in the 1940s from a publisher called Quality Comics that was eventually bought and absorbed by DC Comics.

Just to note, Anya Chalotra once again voices Circe, while Viola Davis does indeed return as Amanda Waller.

Leon Chen, who plays Little Boy 2, also does the voice of Winnie the Pooh on several pre-school series. Keston John, who plays Cop 1 and Lieutenant was Uzo on The Good Place and Tarsem in Avatar: The Way of Water. David Kaye, who plays Cop 2 and Old Man has played both the voice of Megatron and Optimus Prime on several Transformers animated series — as well as Professor X on X-Men: Evolution.

Jason Konopisos, the voice off Congorilla — the big orange gorilla-man who steals Nina’s food in Belle Reeve — was recently the voice of Shockwave in Transformers One. Crew Kingston Miskel, the voice of Boy 1, was Sam on The Big Leap, and the voice of Redbird on Batwheels.

…and last but not last, another Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cameo: Kai Zen, who played Phyla-Vell in the post-credits scene of the movie, does the voice of Little Girl 2.

  1. My god, I couldn’t place Stephanie Beatriz’s voice and it was driving me crazy. Went through about 8 different internet sources until I found this one giving me the answer. Thanks.
