At the ripe old age of 23, international art superstar Vinne is getting a retrospective on his art. Yes, stretching all the way back to when he was 16, starting out posting on Instagram. The new book, titled The Art of Vinne: My Way, hits Kickstarter today from Clover Press, and features 140 pages of art from 2018-2024.

Comic Book Club: Doing some quick math here, but it seems like this collects art you started doing when you were 16 or so? What’s it like looking back on those earlier pieces?
Vinne: Correct. I started when I was 16 in digital art. When I see those pieces, I feel like I didn’t know anything about art at all. This is a good feeling. I see the newest works and I feel happy because I don’t spot the same mistakes anymore (but I still spot a lot).
How do you feel your style has grown since then?
I do feel my personal tastes changed together with my art. It looks cleaner, it’s getting interesting, and working with it has been way more enjoyable recently.
23 is pretty young to have a retrospective art book… What was your feeling when Clover approached you about this? Or did you approach them?
I was approached about creating an art book. I spoke to my manager about it and we agreed it could be a really interesting way to showcase my work. I feel young but I had to take this opportunity. A lot of people ask for my past works and I don’t really want to take longer to release something about them. Let’s say the book is a way to show a creator’s progress since his initial steps to create art.
What was important to capture in this book? What story were you trying to tell?
I’d say it’s a story about the struggle and search for self identity. It’s not that deep, but I feel like every artist passes through this phase. In this book you see how I deal with it.
Now that you are at the ripe old age of 23, where do you see your style evolving?
I don’t know exactly. I feel like there are so many things I haven’t done yet. I’m excited to try new fields of art, and focus on solo art exhibitions and my own brand.
