It’s been a long time since Bitter Root, the critically acclaimed Image Comics series by David F. Walker, Chuck Brown, and Sanford Greene was on stands. Specifically, the last issue was Bitter Root #15 in 2021. But the series is finally coming back in 2025 for Bitter Root: The Next Movement.
Picking up in 1964 at the height of the Civil Rights movement, the new, five issue installment focuses on a group of missing activists, and a new generation of the Sangerye family who, per PR, “must face a menace far worse than anything their ancestors ever encountered. The monstrous jinoo—creatures born out of hate and racism—have evolved into a threat that few people are willing to acknowledge, and even fewer know how to fight.”
Said Greene via press release provided to Comic Book Club, “I’m excited to return to what I believe is one of the most important books of our time!”
Added Brown, “Thanks for always standing up to the monsters,” with Walker noting, “Thanks for your patience. The wait will have been worth it.”
Bitter Root: The Next Movement #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, March 26. Get a look at the cover, below.
